My buddy has his iPhone 6S jailbroken on 9.0.2. His fixed watch from Apple was updated to the newest watch OS. Now he can't pair it. Is there any workaround this?

Install 9.3 on the iPhone?

This is the downside to Jailbreak now, unfortunately. He could look to buy a watch with older firmware on it also.

WatchOS 2.2 needs iPhone 9.3 because of the new multi-watch pairing functionality (and maybe other things, that's just the one I know about.) Apple didn't make the new watch firmware backwards compatible with older phone software versions though.

Is it a 38mm, I'll take it!

His option is to miss out on features and functionality while essentially ruining his device's security, or to upgrade to 9.3. Selling the watch and buying another is an option as well, but there's no guarantee that a new watch will have an older version of WatchOS on it.

That being said, my stainless model that I picked up a bit over a week ago was running 1.0.1, so it's not super likely that a new watch (unless it's one of the new combos) will be running a newer version.

Personally, I'd suggest he update, lose the jailbreak and the security holes it brings, and enjoy a functional watch again. I'm sure I'm not the only one that wouldn't risk my passwords as well as Apple Pay info on a device that's jailbroken - especially with the shady sources jailbreaks come from lately.

Well, you can go on eBay and ask sellers what version watches are on. The problem with a 1.0.1 is that you won't be able to update it to 2.1, I don't think, because Apple is offering 2.2 now.

If you buy a version with a "Spring collection" band soon, it will likely come with 2.1, mine did.
