I let my friend borrow my MacBook for their work, as they use a Surface they are used to picking it up by the screen and so picked my Mac by the screen to put it on the table. Do you think there's now damage to it or will I be okay? Thanks

Your Macbook will survive just fine (assuming that "picking up by the screen" does NOT include tossing through the air while juggling a couple of drinks. :) )
Tell you friend to close the lid next time when moving your MacBook.

I think you should b*tch slap your friend so that he will never do that to another laptop ever again. And unless he squeezed the display there shouldn't be any damage.

The laptop should be ok, but definitely talk with your friend. Let him pick up his 3,000 computer any way he wants but not yours
