As long as I remembered to deactivate iMessage on my phone and disassociate my phone number with iMessage on any other Apple devices, I wouldn't have problems getting subsequent SMS from other iPhone users. The problem only occurred for me when I forgot to do this before moving my SIM card.

It is a royal P.I.T.A. though and the predominant reason why I don't frequently switch back and forth between phones.

^ well that's an interesting lock in strategy for apple :p

Working as intended?

I can't say I've had this problem though swapping my sim a handful of times

Yeah, coupled with the front page post that Apple is aware of the problem and has 'no clue on how to fix it' (riiiiiiiight, sure you don't ;)), I jokingly thought the same thing.

If I didn't live in such a heavy Apple ecosystem/household, I'd probably just turn off iMessage altogether and just stick with SMS or use Hangouts more. Actually, if I wasn't surrounded by so much Apple, there's a good chance I wouldn't be using an iPhone. ;)
