Did Roseanne air in Britain? Or did you watch it another way?

It was on TV when I was a kid, also bought the DVDs a few years back and watched them all again. I prefer the humour of that over Friends, which at times feels very forced.
Friends, Frasier and X-Files boxsets are going to set me back a bit .

Whats Roseanne? i cba to google it :p

Sitcom about a family of misfits set in the early 90's (or so). A lot more "real" than Friends was, also John Goodman.

I wonder how old the OP is, considering it sounds like they've only just heard of the show...
I still watch Friends every other day on e4, never got bored of it.

friends was a great show. but it definitely took time for me to appreciate it. I still remember my reaction when I watched the first episode:

"A show about people that are 20-something, played by actors that are 30-something, written by people that are 40-something" :p

It was just sooooooooo unrealistic to me, but I definitely grew to appreciate the humor and acting in the show. it was good fun while it lasted.

That's an interesting description. I never thought of them as misfits. :) I would have said it was about a blue-collar family.

(Sorry about the sidetrack from Friends.)

I feel so old.

One of my friends made me feel old. He said, dude, 1990 was 20 years ago.

Now I feel old.

'Friends' was/is a great sitcom. The writing was excellent and the actors really made their characters seem very real and three dimensional.

I still watch reruns all the time (KTLA shows an hour of Friends from 11pm-midnight). I don't really like the first season or so..... I think that show really hit it's stride in the second or third season.

A side note..... I met Matthew Perry a little over a year ago. I chatted with him for a while, and of course, we talked a little about Friends (I also told him that I enjoyed his Studio 60 show). I asked him if people still call him Chandler while he's out in public, and he said that they do and that he hates it. He told me that he can't stand the fame because everywhere he goes people recognize him. I guess that would be annoying, but all I was thinking about was the million dollars per episode that he was paid, and that the fame and inconvenience goes with the paycheck. There is more to the story, but it wouldn't be appropriate for me to talk about it.

Speaking of old shows, my wife LOVES The Golden Girls. Kill me.:p

I really liked Roseanne. In a time where sitcoms tended to show 'perfect' families with minor problems (such as the Cosby Show), Roseanne was about a blue collar family in the midwest, and wasn't afraid to tackle some of the heavier issues that real families go through. It's not that big of a deal now, but back in the late 80s and early 90s, it was pretty groundbreaking.

It really was a good show. It was a closer to reality sitcom (except in the last season when they won the lottery.... that was just dumb).

They still run reruns on TVLand. We watch it every once in a while.
