What about the potato cakes at Arby's or breakfast hash browns at McDonald's and Burger King, etc.?

there are different categories i'd say. you can only have one of those big oval hash browns. maybe two (ok, i could have 3 or 4). but you can have a handful/bunch of: rings, fries, tater tots (the hash browns at bk are basically tater tots). and then traditional style breakfast hash browns are also different. gotta use a fork.

For the most part I can't stand onions. I can tell if my food's been cooked near onions. So I'll go with fries.

Bah! They're all fried potatoes, except for the onion rings, and they're all bad for you but taste so good. Six of one, a half dozen of the other.

There was some study (2 years ago?) about Americans' favourite vegetables and the number one answer was potatoes. Apparently the people doing the study didn't even know that potatoes aren't vegetables.

By the way, you don't have to use a fork for traditionally loose hash browns, you can always use chopsticks. ;)

eeewww... how about a garden salad?

Ths ain't a health poll.;) There is a reason I'm doing this survey... Think of it this way, if you walked into a burger joint and one of these could be free on the tanle in front of you... which would you prefer....

says who ?

last time i checked they were in the same family as the tomato and aubergine

biologically they are created for the same reasons as many other vegetables are

Tomatoes aren't necessarily considered vegetables, either, so you're right but you're wrong. :D You should have read the articles on tomato and potato.

thanks for telling me nothing new ;) ... the thing is there is a clear botanical definition of fruit while for vegetable there is none since it's a historic grown term
tomatoes are just like potatoes "Nachtschattengewächse" ("night shade plants")

the differentiation between fruits and vegetables is more a differentiation of taste in the best case and more realistically it's completely artificial

Always glad to help. :p

Until 10 years ago, I'd only heard that tomatoes and potatoes were vegetables. Since then, scientists have been working on a clear definition, probably growing fat while scrutinising them.

However, the sweet taste that is exceptionally noticeable in tomatoes and somewhat noticeable in potatoes would classify them as fruit, regardless of their use.

i prefer rings; my two fave places for rings are Cheeburger Cheeburger and Fuddrucker's.

on a regular day i'd probably say neither. but micky dees' fresh french fries are such awesome hungover food.

Rings, definitely. Well.. unless I'm at Burger King or McDonald's, then I'd choose fries. Jack in the Box used to be at the top of my list, but now their fries are awful.

I like fries, especially the French fries made at In-N-Out restaurants. :D

I miss the old In-N-Out now that I am back on the east coast, but I never missed their fries. To soft for me. The burgers on the other hand...mmmm<drool>

I voted for Rings, but I like them to be on the less-battered side and sliced thin.

Malt vinegar on fries is good, and in Rhode Island, most places offer you white vinegar for your fries.
The even have Salt & Vinegar Chips (or crisps as some would say), I think these are the best:

Tomatoe Tots!

what about the beloved tater tot??? These are some tastey spuds.

oH, and as far as the tomatoe not being a vegi. it isn't. it has it's seeds contained inside the fruit. this is what makes some hing a fruit i think. Vegitable have their seeds seperate from the parts we eat.
