oh great

let's see how long before AT&T collapses under 3G Vid Conferencing. lololol

Was your friends Mac on 3G as well ? I am guessing that it was on a network and therefore you eliminate a lot of the lag. Try going from one 3g device to another 3g device and see if you have any issues.

Am I the only person without problems? One way and two way video calling came pretty clear for both me and my friend over 3G. He was on his Mac and I was on my iPhone 4.

Skype is going to charge a monthly fee to use VOIP over 3G at the end of this year, so skype will be dead soon anyways.

Fring just released version 1. Facetime is going to be opensource so Fring will likely improve.

AT&T only gives you 2GB of data so expect to use it up in a couple of calls.

Honestly, Facetime is just a tease of what's the come in 2 years. Once LTE rolls out on most the major carriers, the iPhone won't be exclusive to AT&T.

Wow so stupid. Why would I want to video chat over 3G? The quality basically makes it worthless.

This is exactly why Apple's FaceTime doesn't run on 3G. I'm sure they have it running off the experimental 4G tower right next to the I-280 and CA-85 interchange.

When the 4G roll out is complete, we will see good hand-held video conferences via carriers. In the meantime, FaceTime is becoming quite the conversation piece (literally and figuratively) at coffee shops and bars via their WiFi connection.

I can cope with the dodgy UI as it's filling a gap until Skype gets around to sorting out their next update. The issue I'm having is random disconnects (I'll re-open the app and I'm signed out) and the fact there appears to be no way to set your status (away, busy etc).

Sort that out and add a few high-resolution images and it'll be pretty good.

That guy:

- didn't rehearse
- shouldn't have been the front guy
- lives in my nightmares
- eats babies
- failed

All of you who s**t on this guy: May be the bombastic nature of the video is meant to be taken in a light hearted fashion and not to be taken seriously. Given how over the top it is, that is a possibility. As someone else mentioned above, may be he is doing a Jim Cramer (CNBC) spoof!

But given the audio quality from the other end, they are better off not even showing it.
