I too did 13P > 15P, which I understand is one of the more ‘controversial’ upgrade paths this year.
Overall for me, a worthy upgrade - but only just. My previous upgrade was 11P > 13P and yet, somehow, 13P > 15P feels like a smaller upgrade, at least four days in.
Some quick thoughts:
Design:
Titanium design and Blue Titanium are both excellent. The phone is much nicer being lighter, the dark blue is so sleek and classy, brushed finish on the frame also looks nice, in general blue being my favourite colour means I don’t feel as bad saying bye to my 13 Pro in Sierra Blue here.
Dynamic Island:
Love it - whether it is the timer to keep me better organised sticking to my deadlines, or much easier control of music that is playing - this is very useful for me.
AOD:
Like it - it is nice when the phone is sitting on my office desk and I can just glance quickly at the temperature or the time or the calendar widget.
USB-C:
I think I will appreciate this the most when I am travelling as I will only need a USB cable for my devices. Nintendo Switch uses USB-C too, well that’s neat. However, when I am at home, I have a MagSafe Multicharging dock which I still love and don’t want to give up yet. However, USB-C will be very nice when transferring files to / from my MacBook.
Battery:
It feels comparable to my day 1 13P. Around the same, can’t say better or worse than my day 1 13P. However today my two year old 13P is sitting at 87% battery health, it is really worn down. 15P battery of launch day is already better than the old phone on 87% it replaced, that worn down battery life really took the shine away of one of the 13P’s big features - not taking a potshot however because a paints a grim picture of what to expect when the 15P’s battery health gets down to that percentage..
Camera:
A pity that it didn’t get the 5x zoom that the PM got. 48MP pictures have incredible detail - I love airdropping them to my iPad and then zooming in and seeing the incredible detail there. I like that 24MP is the default for the regular main shots. However, disappointingly, Night Mode has incremental improvements compared to 13P. Ultra Wide looks less noisy. Overall the big improvements are clearly for the daytime shots.
Other:
The speakers have significantly improved volume and much richer sound quality. The thinnest bezels ever on the screen, I also love. I could also swear that ProMotion somehow feels snappier on this phone.
Overall:
Two things Apple could and should have included - fast charging and actual improved battery life. I can see for many people how hanging onto 13P would easily be worth it. For me, I always loved the AOD and DI introduced last year - but couldn’t justify leaving my 13P after just one year. I also got a larger storage capacity this time around and wanted the improved cameras as I have a heap of overseas travel planned for this next year. I can already tell it would be hard to go back a phone without AOD and DI, so I will stay put and 13 Pro will shortly go for trade in.
