Might be.

All I can do is wait. To see reviews and later get some hands on time on the new MacBook.

What I said is that I'm confident that it will handle Adobe apps well without many hiccups while being noticeably more portable than rMBP.

based on what do you say you're "confident" that it will handle Adobe apps? This isn't the A series of cpu's where apple does a lot more customization; this is an intel cpu. they can do a lot of optimizations but at some point there isn't just enough horsepower.

i, too, will wait for benchmarks for this confirmation but I wouldn't be surprised if this underperforms macbook airs yet still "out-performs" windows computer with the same processor

Exactly. A pity.

One can hope that somebody will make a minimally protruding USB-C adapter that can take a Macbook Air Magsafe.

Highly doubt that will happen as Apple probably has the patents for this. Same reason why there was never any third party MagSafe power adapters.

Right. Apple just blew my mind. I'm gonna get rid of my 15" rMBP and get the 12" rMBA when available.

Even thought the power of 15" rMBP comes handy since I work a lot with Photoshop and Illustrator but the extra portability of the rMBA is well worth it. And it comes with 8GB of RAM and fast SSD anyways so I doubt I'll experience noticeable hiccups.

Anyone else with me?

you don't think you'll wait in the hope of a 14" version? for the larger real estate and one or two more ports?

Apple did not release a Retina MacBook Air today.
Exactly. A pity.

i expect that they will drop the air line when they release a 14" version of rMB

You're actually, very very right!... It's a mistake to talk about a 12" rMBA. Nobody's giving that kind of description on Apple's side...

1) Apple may be considering to kill the "Air" line (with the non-retina display) by the end of 2015 (or early 2016....).
2) In 2016 we'll surely see the 12" rMB with Haswell and I prophesize there will be a bigger mate with 14" rMB.
3) If above comes out true, the 2016 rMBP line may have a 15" model and a re-incarnated 17" rMB model with Skylake; but the 13" rMBP may be dropped off to give way to that 14" rMB.
;)

Number 2 and 3 seem pretty far fetched. The point of rMB seems to be portability, it doesn't make sense to then increase the size past 13" and especially to the gigantic 17". It would not fit into most bags. But I agree that this MBA seems to be on its way out.
