After getting accustomed to a rather firm and muted home button on the 6 Plus, it is difficult for me to get used to a more yielding and noisier home button on the 6s Plus. In a way it feels "plasticky" and cheaper --not characteristics that I associate with Apple. What has been your experience?

I had the same problem with 6 Plus but got use to it very quickly. Just enjoy the phone.

I think most of the phones are going to be like that. Now with 3D Touch the home button doesn't even need to be used as much.

Other way around for me, my 6+ home button was clicky and sounded hollow when pressed but my 6S+ is muted and soft.
They're all assembled to tolerances and you could have three 6+ & three 6S+ all with different feeling/sounding home buttons.

Every home button has varied from device to device. As long as it worked, I am good.

It is not a 6+ to a 6s+. Every iPhone's home button since inception varies slightly in terms of the feel due to variance. If you don't like, simply exchange for another one until you find one that you like within your return period.

I think I have heard this same thing every year. It seems there is a great variance somehow. My 6 plus home button was audibly loud. I just lived with it. 6s plus I can't even hear when clicking it. If I had to pick a preference is say 6s plus, but like I said, I wasn't bothered enough before to do anything about it.

From my experience it varies with the different colors. Sounds weird, I know, but the white ones have a different home button klick than the black ones. The home button on the black ones also is one piece, the white ones have silver, gold rings. Maybe the mechanics are also a bit different. In my opinion the black iPhones with Touch ID have a softer klick which is more silent. The white ones usually klick very loud and feel stiff.

Apples quality control is... Not its strong suit at least for this discerning, passionate crowd.

Brilliant and silent. Can't hear anything when I click my home button.
