I've been a PHP developer since 2001 and I was wondering why one would ever consider WebObjects?

I mean: what does WebObjects bring me that PHP doesn't?

Could someone please explain to me what WebObjects all is about?

PHP is a programming language. WebObjects is a DBMS backed application server. In Web Objects the web content is stored in a database

WebObjects powers very complex web applications. If I remember correctly, it used to and possibly still does power the online Apple Store. Could anyone verify that?

Also, I might be wrong, but I think it is being phased out slowly.

Yes, apparently it is still being used for the Apple Store:

But I don't think it's had a significant update in more than a decade. Personally I wouldn't even consider using it now just because of the lack of support and very shaky commitment on Apple's part.
