I've went down from a 49 inch Samsung super ultrawide (which the height is equivalent to two 27“ displays, and on a separate workstation a 32“ Samsung 4k space monitor.

Both of the Samsung displays have a matte costing and I think the glossy glass on the studio display makes a huge difference in clarity and color.

The studio display gets much much brighter than the other two and it has the added benefit of having great speakers included, which helps a lot with my minimalist aesthetic.

The studio display feels bigger than the 32inch at first, likely due to the large black bezels around it, but I'm starting to feel that it really is 27, luckily it's very space efficient so I tend to just move the whole monitor much closer to me.

I just wish I could easily control the brightness in windows on my work computers

@kreasu_ Thank you for your reply. Do you feel the Studio Display is worth kicking out a 32” monitor? My AOC 32U1 has small bezels and is quite vibrant with a max of 600 nits. But really, I have been waiting for a glossy monitor for so long. The matte coating is something I really dislike. I used to have 27” iMacs. What would you recommend me?

There are a few specific instances that I'd recommend the studio display, if you're doing video editing it's super nice to be able to see full resolution in a small corner of the monitor, or if you're trying to go for that minal aesthetic (in my case I hate my external speakers and Webcam hanging off my monitor) then the integrated camera and speakers would make me recommend the studio display. The extra resolution is super nice but without using any scaling text is really small, at 200% it's equivalent to a 2560x1440 monitor.

The thing that sets this monitor apart from others really is that glossy glass display, no other monitor except for eve spectrum is quite like it. The zdepth is nice too, only being about six inches in total depth, which means you can push it way up against a wall without it being ugly. Personally I would trade a 32inch matte for this display

It really isn't that flexible though, if you need to hook up a dgpu (like an Nvidia 3090) or want to plug in an Xbox or Playstation you really can't, it's solely for productivity.

I think, if you're okay waiting, the eve spectrum is 27 inches and has a glossy display.

Hello,

Did anyone choose for the Apple Studio Display, despite having a bigger screen now? For example, going back from 32" to 27" Apple Studio Display? How do you like it? Let's share some experiences!
Yes, I was using a 32" 4K Samsung + 27" TB display from 2011 with my M1 Mini.

Only annoying issue was the Samsung has a matte plastic front while the TB display has a glass front.

Now will be matching glossy screens by using the base ASD along with the TB display - so will be dropping down to dual 27".

Also switched from M1 Mini to Mac Studio for the ability to drive more than 1 TB display.

And how does it feel? Do you feel 27” is too small or not?

I think the size feeling too small or big depends on the distance you plan on placing it from you, if your monitor is at the back of your desk 2ft away from you, a 32 inch would be better but any closer a 27 is fine, also things sometimes look smaller depending on how strong of a glasses prescription you have

Good point. My desk indeed is at the back of my desk and I don’t want it to be any closer. I have quite bad eyes, so I have put my scaling on the AOC U32U1 to setting 3 for some bigger texts.

I went from a Dell UltraSharp 32" 4K USB-C monitor. I have a large desk, so I had the 32" pushed way back. Downsized to the new Studio Display, simply moved it a lille closer than the Dell. ZERO comparison in picture quality, and got to cleanup my desk by eliminating the external webcam and speakers. Would not hesitate to make the move.

Tim

I went from a Dell U3821WE 38" curved display to the ASD. The curve was starting to annoy me. Took some getting used to not having the curved display and reduced desktop space, but I like it better. The text is super crisp.

Very nice. I will get to an APR to see the display in person and find out if it is something for me. Not now, because I am in quarantaine, I have covid..

I gave it a thought after playing with the 27" AR. I will not do it.

For now, my AOC U32U1 is good enough. I don't want to go back to a much smaller display.

I have an LG ultrawide that's 38" - picked up the Studio Display and LOVE IT. Feel more focused and enjoy the smaller / crisper screen. I'm adding a 2nd studio display to my setup, which may be overkill...but I love this thing!
