Just proves everyone is different and one phone may not right for everyone.

I've had big phones since big phones became big. When a bigger one came out I wanted it. To a point. I have an XR and have small hands. The XR feels better in the hand than any other phone I have owned. I can't reach anywhere close to the top. But I can stretch and reach the opposite side. Which allows me to make small texts one handed. And while doing this it doesn't feel like it will fall out of my hand. I came from a Pixel 2 XL and previously a 7+. If I tried to text one handed it would feel like the phone was going to fall forward out of my hand.

My girlfriend got an XR too. She loves the size and has really small hands. She said it just feels very well balanced. And she came from a 6s.

In a similar boat having gone from 6 to XR but I am now on my 2nd day of use and I am getting more and more used to it. The crunch will come when I put a case on it and see how big that makes it feel. I've gone from 60:40 in favour of returning it to 70:30 in favour of keeping it in the past few days. The 30% is basically due to the size in the pocket, how easily it will fall out etc.

For the same price or up to £100 more (with 128gb storage) I'd go for the xs every day as it is the sweet spot between basically the same as the 6 in the hand but with a decent amount more screen, however the additional cost is just too much to justify it. Whilst I may not need more than 64gb, I don't want to have to worry about saving space for the next 3 years. How we let Apple get away with their storage options and pricing is beyond me, but there you go; I complain but still choose iphone so I am part of the problem.

For me, anything bigger would be a no go as I tried the 8 plus a few months ago and the size just annoyed me.

I decided to give it another try. I put on spigen tempered glass and Caudabe clear case and will take it with me to daily tasks starting tomorrow and see if my opinion will change.
The XS price with less storage and less battery is plenty enough to give the XR another chance. Hopefully I’ll set my mind before end of the week.

I went into the Apple store last week intent on buying an XR 128GB, but ended up coming out with an XS 64GB

Coming from a 6S, the XR just didn't feel right in the hand. Can't really put my finger on it, but it was a combination of the width, thickness & weight that didn't work for me.

The XS isn't a huge amount smaller than the XR, but was just more comfortable to hold.

Both phones are noticeably heavier than my old 6S, but that's been compensated by my wallet getting lighter ;)

I’m very curious to hear your story when you make up your mind. Very similar to mine. Case definitely added to the bulkyness of my XR, BUT also it added extra grip and it feels more secure in hand.
This is the case I got:
Ringke Fusion Designed for iPhone XR Case Clear Transparent PC Back TPU Bumper [Matches with All Ceramic Candy-Colored Device] Scratch Protection Case Cover for Apple iPhone XR 6.1" (2018) - Clear https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H4DV9MJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_STS6BbWH8GTKC

I so want XS but the features of XR at lower cost are winning so far over XS. ESPECIALLY 128 GB and now the option with Halide app to add bokeh to nonhuman pictures.

Sell the xr and get a used but like-new iphone x. The difference between xs and x are so small you will not notice it.

I am thinking the same about the grip; I’m ok with the size but can see it slipping if not careful but with a grippy case I think it’ll be a winner. I also like having more screen.

Yes, I’d have gone for the Xs as well but at £200 more for the 64gb v 128gb I didn’t feel it was worth it. As I said, I may not even use the extra but I’d rather not get 12 months down the line and up to 58gb so the 128 was a no brainer. To get more storage in the Xs would cost £1,149 which is an absurd £350 more (and I wouldn’t use 150gb+ of that 256 so what a waste). Yes I’d like it to be a tad smaller but I’ve got better things to spend £350 on, albeit it’s never in one hit if one is on a 2 year contract but cumulatively it is the same additional cost.

Will look into that case as I am happy to spend a few quid to get a decent one; this thing is a premium device so want to keep it in good shape whilst also not covering the whole thing in some bombproof shell!

I'll never understand this. How can you be annoyed by the notch but okay with the giant unused block of real estate at the top (and bottom) of the 8?

Completely agree with this, it makes no sense to complain about the notch even though there is a whole load more screen on a phone that overall is smaller.

I have a 6s for work and bought a XR on launch day. I got used to the size difference within a few days and I have small hands. I found I can use it with one hand even with an Otterbox case on it. I would suggest giving it some time.
What otterbox case do you use? I tried the XR in store and it’s fine naked but not sure how it feels with a case.

The screen on the 8 (or 7, 6...) is 100% clean. After using the XR and going back to 8 I realised how ugly the notch is.

Also the video space cut out because of the new screen proportion is pretty annoying.

Hope for an iphone with no notch and “all screen design” in the future...

It is a clear case that covers the back and sides but not the front. It is recessed so a drop won’t crack the screen. It was about $50 at Best Buy. Not a huge bulky case like the defender.

I’ve been using XR for last 48 hrs and I can’t find comfortable hand grip for use with one hand.
Of course phone case only added to it.
I love everything about this phone, but the size.
I had a chance to use XS as well and it was way better and closer to 6s. But the price.
Anyone can give me some ideas or thoughts if this gets better with every day of use? Or should I just go back to my old 6s.

I’ve had mine for about a week now and can’t stand it. Still feels absurdly large and heavy, doesn’t fit comfortably in any pockets and is pretty much impossible to use with one hand. If it’s going to be this awkward, I’ll just carry around my iPad. I’m taking it back tomorrow and going back to an 8.

I agree... my poor pinkie(s) :(
Its not just the size, its also the weight...

2020 iphones are rumored to have 5.4” size. For some reason i speculate thats the budget one...

You might be wrong. Rumors say that the 5.4" and 6.7" models are going to be the 5g enabled phones with newest features and the 6.1 phone will again be the less expensive model.

I thought that based from the fact that all three will be oled and 3d touch will be phased out... im not sure how they will differentiate the phones to replace the advantages current xs has over xr.. anyway, ill be disappointed they keep same price diff or if apple make 2020 xr actually inferior to justify the price diff while keeping 3 models oled

I havent had a phone that was good for single handed use. The SE was small and it would slide out from the hands and also the screen was small.

I had the same problem (single handed use) with the XS. That problem went away after i put a smart battery case on it. I give the bump on the case the full credit for it. After getting used to that, I found the screen too small on the XS, and went for a XR for the bigger screen, and now single handed use is a problem :D

( I dont have small hands)

The XR fits perfectly in my hands. I am coming from the XS Max that was mildly cumbersome in my hands and the XS just felt very little and almost too thin.

The ‘triple lens camera’ could be exclusive to the XS over the XR, as the XR is expected to receive the dual camera upgrade this year. Also, I suspect the 2019 XR will use LCD for one more year.

I agree, Its way too big and heavy. feels like your carrying around a tablet. Apple needs to make a new small phone like the 4" iphone se size again. I'm sick of these big phones It would be awesome if they made that full screen

I did exactly the same as you, and had the EXACT same thought process, but I also wanted zoomed screen mode and the XS lacks this, only the Max and XR have it.

I am really interested to see what the new SE will be about, but that bigger screen grows and grows on you, and when you go back to a 4.7” screen you suddenly don’t like it as much../ so there is that.
move got used to like in my pocket now too. But it still can be a bit big joe and then, you do kinda get used to it though. And you’ll end up using your XR phone more then anything else because of that screen size.
I can use it one handed ish for some tasks, but it’s easier to type on then a 4.7” screen for me.
I’m hoping the new 12 next year gets an OLED screen with thinner bezels, and a Qualcomm modem with better antenna design, that’s all I want in it, all the other features of then 11 are perfect. I’ll buy it then with a plan to keep it long term.
