I'm really struggling to decide if I will update my current iPhone 7 to an iPhone X. My main issue is the size. I love the form factor of an iPhone 7. I can do everything with one hand. I know that the iPhone X is only a little bit bigger than the 7, but the screen is larger. It's somewhat more difficult to reach the tops of the screen for notification center or control center. On the other hand, I would love the features that was previously only available for the plus phones.

Are there other people who had the same fear and take the bullet?

I’ve been back and forth. Due to an issue with the 8 Plus I’m likely going back to the regular 8.

My thoughts...

Camera between Plus and non-Plus is minimal as zoom lens is not that great and not great IQ. 8/X take amazing photos.

Battery on X/8+ is awesome.
Screen on X/8+ is very good (I prefer 8+)
Length of X/8+ can be unwieldy.. my hands aren’t small.
X/Plus has some heft. You know you have a phone in your pocket
Speaking of pockets.. good luck using the front one.
IMO screen on X is closer to non-Plus as it’s same width.
FaceID .. some love it.. some don’t. My wife really dislikes it and she’s hot.

In summary.. I’m about to leave the Plus and the only thing I really think will miss is the screen size.. but TBH.. it’s often too big. It’s great for media but the rest of the time lots of ‘extra’ space that isn’t utilized or necesary.

Does FaceID work better for attractive people? Or are attractive people likely to be more comfortable with their phone checking them out every time they go to use it? :D

On topic, there are times when I miss the form factor of the 7/8. Despite the difference in size being small, there is a big difference in one-handed usability. Even reaching the bottom left corner (while using right handed) can be cumbersome.

Also, while I enjoy the technology involved with FaceID and the progression of biometrics, TouchID was damn good for me and it certainly has an advantage when it comes to speed. However, the passive aspect of FaceID is incredible.

Not sure if this helps at all. I think what should be taken from my post is that both devices are excellent and have their advantages and disadvantages. I recommend utilizing Apple's generous return policy and giving the X a try for a couple of weeks. It took about three days for me to be 100% sure that I wanted to keep mine.

I upgraded from a 7 to X and loved it. Reachability is even easier on the X and I had NO regrets. Absolutely loved the X in every regard!! Except, I'm one of those unfortunate souls that got a headache and eye pain from using it. Had to return it for a 8+. The plus is ok but does feel like a huge step back from a X. If I were you I'd try it! You can always return it if you find issues but imo that's unlikely as long as it doesn't bother your eyes.

Have to say I disagree with the bolded statement. Reachability with the home button is much more consistent, IMO.

Even if you went and purchased the iPhone X, you still have 14 days to determine if it's for you or not. That should be more than enough time if you find the form factor comfortable and you like the overall experience with the iPhone X. So in a sense, it's risk-free.

I recently exchanged the X for an 8. Couldn’t justify the thousand dollars. Got a headache from the screen, it’s too long. Battery on the regular eight is surprisingly better than the X. Much happier.

I have had the iPhone X for a couple of weeks now. I recently (1 week ago) bought the iPhone 8.
I am seriously considering to return the X (Apple Store, can still return due to the special Christmas extended return policy)

I bought the iPhone 8 (64Gb) for about €475 less then my iPhone X (64Gb). You can already find some good deals for the iPhone 8.

Just love the perfect portablility of the 8. Its as fast as my iPhone X (same A11 ofcourse), makes nice photo's to ( I am no pro photographer at all). imho,TouchID is still King compared to FaceID.
And to be honest, I do not (really) miss the oled screen of my iPhone X, the display of the 8 is perfectly fine.

So, for me it comes to the big question if the extra €475 my iPhone X is worth it, compared to my iPhone 8. (Both 64Gb models)

I honestly find the 8 to still have an amazing display do to wide color and True Tone. I don’t miss the X and feel that that phone needs time to mature. Just my opinion.

Isn't that what technology is? It's a maturity process. The iPhone X introduced two new major features, Face ID and gesture controls. Both of which have a lot of potential, but will take time to evolve and become something greater. As far as hardware aspects, something that naturally improve regularly, but Apple usually excels in terms as it is in quality of materials.

I have been using a plus daily since the 6 Plus. Reach ability was an important factor. I daptaed quickly to the X bar and have ultimately found it easier to use.

I feel that iPhone X was not ready to be released (mostly, but not completely). Form does not completely meet functionality, which can change in future iOS iterations. Initially, and as of right now, the iPhone X does not cater to my needs, just as it instead might cater to someone else’s. It’s personal prerogative.

I must admit that I also think this from my brief experiences in the store.
It takes a while to get used to the guestures. At first I used the X in a store and the only one I could do was the swipe up to exit an app. After having my own X for a day I could do them all.

To be honest I didn’t really use it on any of my Plus phones. Now I use it on the X to access the control centre. It’s easy to access.

I went from 7 to X. Physically pretty close. Still have the 7 in the house so still get to be familiar with it. But increasing the screen size will make some things harder to reach, it's just physical reality. I gladly choose screen size and choose to adjust how I use it for the extra real estate. If you don't find the extra real estate that helpful and you're in the sweet spot for handling, there you go. I never considered this as a potential problem, and it hasn't been. First time I've heard of this as a potential deciding factor. If that's your main concern, it needn't be.

So you adjusted easy to the bigger screen? And are you using it with one hand? And what do you mean with your latest sentence?

Going to a bigger screen in the same size package is what everyone wants, right? Adjusted easily yes, I don't even think about how I may have held previous phones. Yes, I regularly use it one handed, probably most of the time. I have to shift my hand sometimes, but I've gotten used to where to hold the phone. My last sentence means, if adjusting to the screen size is your major concern, it's a non-issue. Even the haters don't complain about the usability of the gestures.

On September when they release the phone I thought that this device was no ready for prime time, I did not like the rounded corners of the screen, I thought the notch was terrible design, well I continue believing that, I thought that the lack of the finger print sensor was a terrible mistake, all those presumption were in my mind until I got my own iPhone X, I was totally wrong, this device is fantastic, the tactile and clarity of the screen is amazing, face id works as intended, I don't miss the home button or the finger print scanner, the notch does not bother me at all because of the immersion that the design of the screen creates. I have to admit, I was wrong, this device is beautiful and responsive. $1000 very well spent because this device will last at least 3 years, until 2021.
