In all honesty, I can only see the goodies in the Mac mini being potential quad core, and not much else...

Thunderbolt should add a lot. I would say quad core is unlikely, given that Mini usually follows the MacBook/13" MBP rather than the 15" MBP.

Thank you all for all the help, I am off out today to go and look at getting Imac, so one last question.
I have read lot's of reports of dust and dirt getting behind the front panel should I be concerned about that, I live in quite a dusty envirement next to farmers fields, I have to clean the inside of my PC every couple of months to remove the thick layer of dust. I thought the imac screens were sealed with outlets at the side and back.

the mac minis are kind of, very slowly, moving away from the trends of the laptop hardware. i would like to hope and dream that the likelihood of a quad going in the mini fairly high. they can take the TDP right?

Quad? :D In your dreams I think, in your dreams.
i dont remember my dreams :( ;)

they are highly sealed, the air is "sucked in" from the bottom where the RAM DIMMS are and thrown out the back towards the top along a small slit. ive opened my fair share of imacs, and i can honestly say that apart from on the grill down the bottom, they do not get any dust inside of them. they most certainly do not get dust in the LCD panel/glass.

Thank you DoFoT9, I have delayed going out to purchase waiting for an answer and that's the aswer I was hoping for.

I am now a proud owner of the imac 21" 4gb imac. I have only been using it 10 minutes and love it, it was so easy to get started plug in 1 lead add name and password and I am away. Wow! Thank you all those that contributed to this thread. All I have to do now is make sure I do a lot more reading on this forum before I connect my Ipad.

Answers to the question, "Name two fomats that will be obsolete in the next 3 to 5 years?"

So what's wrong with using it for the next 5 years until it becomes obsolete? Or you'd rather watch something more obsolete in the meantime like DVD and 720p compressed movies?

Glad you like it.
Was wondering, how do you like the wireless keyboard and magic mouse?
One simple answer, weird. I might try and use my logitech bluetooth keyboard, its fairly new so will see if there are driver, the mouse takes a little getting use to, I still haven't found the right click.

I am finding the interface is so easy to use much easier than the PC. I am visually impaired so have icons is brilliant for me. Loving it so far the simplicity of everything is brilliant.

Haha. Go into settings. Mouse settings and enable secondary click. That should turn it on for you :D I'd give the keyboard and mouse some time. The touchpad and magic mouse are quite vital in the next OS which you will be eligible for free.
