From PC to PC

Hi,

I am pathetically clueless when it comes to the iPhone, as a long time blackberry and now android user.

A friend has a PC he's used to backup his iPhone - contacts, SMS, all sorts of random little notes & things in it in a messy fashion. He wants to transfer this to a new PC.

Is it as simple as copying everything out of the application data on the old PC to the new PC? Is there a better way to go about this? Will this method even work?

I don't want to lose all his iPhone data.
