Frozen screen

I have 1.1.3 update. My screen is frozen - help! It's all black except for a small circle in the middle, and the top bar shows reception, the time, and battery. The time and battery are stuck at when this first happened - 5:14 PM and it's over 5 hours later.

Holding the menu button down does not help. Holding the power button down does not help. Not sure what else I can try.

Will the battery eventually run out and then I can restart?

When I dock it to my computer, it's attempting to sync in iTunes, but it just cranks like it's trying but really does nothing.

did you try home+power buttons until screen goes black to restart?
if you let go of the power and keep holding the home button after that you can probably reload the firmware from recovery mode.

(i'm guessing you probably know this so just ignore me if you did this already 🙄)
