I logged in this morning like normal, then my MacBook froze like this. Green vertical lines. I rebooted, grey screen-normal sounds, and it froze with the lines there on the login screen. I rebooted again, but made it past the login screen, to then have it freeze about two minutes later. Any help would be much appreciated.

Could be a few things. Though the first I would check is the RAM. Bad RAM causes all sorts of strange things like that. Hopefully it isn't the GPU, though it *could* be. If that's the Late '08 unibody (looks like a backlit keyboard no?) the 9400m could be having issues. Though it's not very common like the 8xxx series.

I would try removing and reseating your RAM and doing the good ol' PRAM and SMC resets. Then remove the RAM one stick at a time and place it in different slots to see if it makes a difference. One of the sticks may be bad.
