I am trying to connect my apple to a machine running a unix OS. I haven't been able to see it on my home network so I tried using an ftp client to communicate with it. I can see all the files on it using this but I can't transfer files because it says that a connection cant be made. But if I see the files then I am connected, right? Any help.

need more info about the unix machine, your network, ftp software, can you ping the server, and what do you mean by "i haven't been able to see"?

If you are unix-savvy, what happens when you ftp or sftp from the terminal prompt in MacOS to the Unix box?
