Same problem for me...

To temporarily solve the problem I've decided to turn off the 3G and go with Edge. No problems with Edge, just a little bit slower than a typical 3G. To do this go to Settings < General < Network.

Yes. Thank you Steve.

I'm loving my new iPhone 4 with revolutionary Edge connectivity.

No problem! I'll be awaiting my rebate from AT&T then since i"m not getting what I'm paying for. ;-)

I actually did try it, and it was still causing it.

glad im not the only one. its only in certain places though. its kind of annoying

same issue. i have my iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3GS side by side, both with a full 5 bars of 3G. i cleared the history, cookies, and cache on both. i fired up sarafi and tried loading a site such as nytimes.com. the 3GS starts loading it right away, and takes a total of 5-7 seconds to finish loading. the iPhone 4 on the other hand takes 10 seconds to even begin loading and then goes on to take a total of 45 seconds+ to load it. this has been happening for EVERY site about 90% of the time. it is ridiculous.

All....the....freaking...time. In NYC, I've been showing full bars, 3G all over, and half the time, page just stalls and stop loading.

When this happens, I have to restart the phone. And then all my email, messages, will quickly all hit when the phone restarts. Will work ok for a while, then seems to lock up again, and I have to restart again.

Last night, out to dinner...my iphone 4 and my v my girl's 3G. Both side by side, loading same sites.

Hers worked 100% of the time, always faster...mine stalled about 40% of the time.

I'm at a loss of words.

Funny thing? She insisted on updating today...and now she's complaining how bad her service is now at her office with similar issues.

Puzzled...we may return them both and wait til end of summer. Just way way way way too many issues with this phone as of now. (I too suffer from the death grip...bit of tape assisted there)

But too many bugs. Way more than my last one or my ipad...

Dave

You nailed it Dave - I work in NYC, same exact issues..... even with my phone reception, I have to reboot etc.

ive been having this problem a lot since i got the phone. if im out especially in building where it shows good signal it take it forever to load data. text goes through fine but data takes forever. much slower than my 3gs why is this? is it my phone or are others getting this?

I wonder if it has to do with all the new customers. Is the network being overwhelmed? I've always had poor data and phone despite having 5 bars of 3G here in Brooklyn Heights(mostly residential) but it's practically useless now.

Actually rebooting works for me too(at least temporarily) , which leads me to believe that it is an apple problem rather than a network problem. Confused and frustrated. Are the 3GS's starting to show this problem as well? I'm seriously considering going back.

Nope, 3GS are actually working. Two people in the office have them and are up and running. Trip to the Apple store :)

I'm glad this is becoming a popular issue and not just me...
Showing full bars and 3g signal my phone lags when streaming music, loading my mail or loading a page in the Facebook app.
just saying...

I thought I was the only one :(. Good to know there are other people aware of this.

I've had to go back to Edge because 3G would never load anything at all. It would just spin forever loading a page or ANYTHING that uses internet.

It's starting to really piss me off. The worst thing is--I have a perfect screen and I would go crazy if I return this one and get a yellow screen next.

The fact that this PHONE cannot make stable PHONE calls and connect to the internet just proves how pathetic this thing is. I love my iPhone 4's specs but it's performance sucks. I'm actually considering going back to my 3GS or getting an EVO 4G or something.

Something very wrong was happening when this phone was being designed, manufactured, released.

For anyone testing a 3GS against a 4...

Is the 3GS running iOS 4 or some version of 3.1?

Maybe iOS 4 is the problem and not the iP4 hardware?

3.1

Which of course now makes me wonder on the iOS4...then again, based on that rumored leak re: the "reception" issue?

Who the F knows...

I can at least report that the problem seems to be related to location. At work the last two days 3G has been terrible. As I pulled away from work I let pandora try to play. After 3 miles it kicked in and worked great all the way home. Now I'm visiting my parents and posting from my phone with fast 3G speeds again. Very strange. I work in Florence Kentucky and live in Cincinnati Ohio. No problem when I leave Florence.

Here is what I notice.

Even in an area with 5 bars and a bumper on I get much faster throughput if I hold it in my right hand verses left. The bumper helps with the dropped call issue and i do not loose any bars but the data is much slower in the left hand .

Apple please make a version for us lefties.

I get this often with AT&T 3G in our city -- lotza bars, nothing happens.

It was so frustrating, I got the Sprint Overdrive 4G portable hotspot. Its more expense each month, but now I have an working alternative for the iPhones and iPads we like to take with us everywhere.

I'm confused. How do you use a 4g hotspot with an iPhone or iPad?

I took my phone to the apple store because of this. They replaced my phone. It worked for the weekend without problems. Now yesterday it started happening again. Went back to the apple store, they where going to replace it again, but the guy said maybe I should try ATT before they replace it. So I did.

I took it to the att store, and the replaced my sim and re provisioned my data as the apple store had said they should do. No luck. The ATT store had 2 iphone 4 demo's on display at the store. I tried it on them. SAME ISSUE. The att rep took out his personal 3gs, we tried it again. Mine didnt work, his loaded the page, every time. Tried it agian on the 2 demo's in the store. Once again, they didnt load, his 3gs did.

Something is up...
