Battery life wasn’t a problem during my full marathon (ran it in 5 1/12 hours). Had about 15% battery left at the end.

The issue was that the Nike run app started lagging during the last 6-8 miles, which caused my total distance to be off by 2-3 miles.

I believe this “lagging” and “freezing” was due to me having auto-pause on. The watch struggles to pause and restart during a long distance run — too much data for the ram.

I am running another race in a few, will try with auto-pause turned off. If the watch struggles, I may consider a Garmin for activity and sports. Will still keep and use my AW as a daily driver.

If I turn of "raise to wake" do you think the Apple Watch (42mm S3) will last 6.5 hours-- slow runner here.
I'm not a fast runner, and the longest I've run was 1/2 marathon. I don't think my watch would last a 1/2 never mind a full. Maybe the S4 that I've ordered will fair better then my current S0 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The series 4 upped the outdoor time from 5 to 6 hours. Best as I can tell the heart rate sensor has improved battery life.

That one hour is for the smaller size, so in theory the larger 44mm should last a little longer. The larger watch usually has a bigger battery and better battery life.

When I looked up the stats it looked like that was for the larger size as well - but yea I am very eager for testing of series 4! Joint mentioned the running is more accurate for the current pace and that has been a complaint for many that swear by Garmins!

A case of under promise/over deliver. Apple have always said the two sizes have the same battery life, and they never have - the larger was always capable of more. Perhaps they didn't want to cannibalise sales of the smaller model and have people lugging huge bricks around on their tiny wrists (when they were still going for the fashion market).

I've run a lot of marathons with my S2 with GPS on and around the 4 hour mark it has never been a problem (surprisingly my AirPods ran out of juice short before the finish actually)

I suspect the S4 will be a lot better, if you don't stream the music via LTE... But I had to drop the Nike app long ago... It just sucked hard on my S2! Use the native instead...

New world record today at 2:1:39. Getting closer to the holy grail of smashing 2H.

Why not try Apple Workout app? It never lags when my NRC lags.

My words exactly.. NRC has been a train wreck on my S2 (might be better on the S3 and even better on the S4) but the build in has always been rock solid, fast, responsive and not crashing
