I don't think it makes sense at all. The carriers are trying to force you away from subsidized contract plans and make you buy the phone outright or on payment plan. in which case you are still paying full price just over a few months and once its paid off your monthly payment to them is cheaper. it makes sense that they don't want to sell full price phones to people who are not verizon customers and have no intention to use it on a verizon plan. If you are a Verizon customer and wanted to buy a phone at full price and they denied you I would be screaming to every manager I could find. Thats ridiculous.

I'd rather buy from the Apple store in any case - much better return policy, among other things.

The reason it makes sense is that, although you're right that they want to move away from "subsidized" (we have to use that term loosely  ) contracts, VZW is always going to prefer making money on their outrageously over-priced wireless contracts. I understand their business model. The Apple store is a ten minute walk away...

I don't know where you live that you have a line of 40 people outside your store at opening. I live in NY and I walked up at 9:50 to be second in line for a reservation. Store opened at 10 am. I don't see where you're pulling waiting an hour+ from considering that fact alone. I have a 6 that I bought outright from bestbuy with NO line, NO wait. Walked in, asked for phone, paid and left. I got my 6 plus. Walked in. 10 minutes later had the phone in hand. Sounds to me like you're being impatient, but unwilling to do the leg work. Everyone in this thread has given multiple options. Go to a store and buy a phone or order one, wait 2 months, and hope for the best. I'd personally prefer to deal with things in person to avoid issues like a family member of mine had when he ordered through T-Mobile.

Did you actually read my past posts? I check iStock now, said they had the phone I wanted. I live in CT and the store had 40+ asian people waiting in line to get the iPhone6, at 10 am when the store opened. I said F that. And correct, I DON'T have the patience to wait in that line to buy an iPhone, it wasn't moving. You are correct, I am impatient because of that exact fact.

And you can't reserve a phone on apples website and pick up in store because I have an upgrade available and It makes me add a line to my plan, no option to pay full price online and pick up in store. Only way to do so is like others said to walk in but again... large line of asians waiting and it wasn't the pre order line either.

Secondly, Best Buy charges $50.00 MORE, $799, for the iPhone. I'm NOT willing to be overcharged. And I already went that rout and and they don't price match phones. Been there done that. I even sent a complaint to their HQ.

So if I have a friend who has a Verizon account, but has no upgrades available -- can I ask him to go on the Apple website, and click to order a Verizon IP6, and he'll be able to reserve one for in-store pickup at the full price as device only?

Reservations are not the online orders. It's called a reservation pass. I called Danbury and asked them for a pass to pick up the phone. They wrote my name down and held the phone. No line. Google Apple reservation pass, it has nothing to do with buying online.

My best buy price matches. Sorry that yours doesn't. But before you ask if I read your post, you should've read mine. There's no line if you call ahead or pick up a reservation pass. The Danbury store was extremely accommodating. I don't know where in CT you are, but as I live near the border I go there. If you're nearby I'd advise it as there's very minor lines, if any assuming you don't have a pass prior to showing up. If not you get in the reserve line and tell them the phone you want and they hold it. I'm not sure how each store handles it, but that's how they do it.

You can purchase the iPhone 6 outright on apple.com. For any carrier. Just pick your phone size and color and then go to upgrade on a different carrier, select the carrier you want and it will make you pay the 649,749, or 849.

kioko... I can really call my local Apple Store If i know they have the model avail, and talk to someone there and ask for a reservation pass, and then go pick up that phone? with out doing anything online? really? I will google that now. Thanks

Just to update, did get a friend to order from the Apple website for me a VZW iPhone 6 at full price. Did not really go as smooth as I thought though.

During pick-up, they said they had to activate the new phone on my friend's line, even though we were paying full price for the phone. They said all orders placed online must be activated and the only way to get a phone, while paying full price, without activating, is to do the walk-in buys.

In the end, they had to activate it and we had to go to a VZW store to get it all sorted out (i.e. get my friend's original phone working again and deactivating the new phone we just bought).

Not your fault, but the Apple rep was just plain wrong.

It depends on the store whether they'll do it over the phone, but yeah they do what's called a reservation pass. It lasts for a day and the phone is held with your name on it. Dad currently has one being held at our Danbury store for pick up today.
