Full redesign in 2012...

When do you think this will hit the shops, I'm after the MBA but would love the ivy bridge one when does everyone think it will come out? Is it worth buying a MBA now?

For me it's pretty obvious.

People rarely use their computers at places where there isn't a wifi connection already available.

You never use your MBA walking around, sitting in a car or on a bus but you do use your iPad while doing those things.

After I got my 4s, this is my next biggest priority. I don't know HOW but I will hold off on mba till 2012 for next refresh.. oh my god..

my 27 iMac + mb (2009) will have to do for now...
But come black friday, I will be mightly tempted... oh man oh man

fair enough. however, i wouldn't say 'never'. also, if MBA had 3G, people with long commutes could actually get work done on the train, etc. and, in a way, an MBA is more convenient in a car than an ipad, because, my big gripe against the ipad, it holds itself up (better).

and, people rarely use their computers at places where there isn't wifi, but maybe partly, because their computers don't have 3G.

... as for waiting for a 2012 MBA starting now, sounds agonizing.

But the carrier term for iPads is month to month. I figure it would be the same for a MBA.

I think most of you guys are right though. It's not in the cards. At least not for next year.

Who cares about the term, it's not the contract that's the problem, it's the hardware. AT&T MBA ? Verizon MBA ? T-mobile MBA ?

Frankly, just gimme a no 3G MBA and let the carrier give me their 0$ USB 3G dongle or a tethering plan on my phone.

My MBA already has 3G in that sense.

I would love it if the new Macbook Air contained 4G. It would be nice if the 4G was setup the same way it is on the iPad (no commitment). If I'm traveling this month they I drop the $25 - if not, I just cancel it.

I was also thinking about screen size, since it is rumored that Apple may be considering a 15" Air. Based off the current 13" case, if they did away with the bezel, they could actually fit a 15" screen in there (12.8" x 8.94" = roughly 15.6"). At a minimum they wouldn't have to increase the size of the MBA by much - which would be awesome.

I actually second this. How about 13 inch mba but also 13 inch form factor but 14 inch actual screen as mba pro? I don't know.. !!! but 13 inch w/ 14 inch screen would be nice(whatever the size comes up to)

What could they really do, there is no way it will be thinner. Its as thin as it needs to be.

I can't see what they could possibly do to overhaul the Air...

Thinner? No way in hell.
New material/liquid metal? Nope. Not gonna happen.
Thinner Bezel? I guess it's possible, but I have my doubts.
Touch screen keyboard? No.

... I'm really at a loss here. I really don't think the Air needs an overhaul persay. It's already one of the sexiest notebooks.

Now if there was some kind of miraculous way to redesign the INTERNALs so there's room for a discrete GPU, that'd be awesome! 😀..... but again. Prolly not gonna happen.

-8 gig option would be nice(for cheap price PLease).

-no 3g or 4g(at least for me, it's useless).

-smaller bezel(not a show stopper)

-Higher res(along w/ res independent on next osx)

-better battery

But yeah I agree, mba is already superb and sexy machine.. NOt sure if it needs redesign.

I'd love a thinner bezel (heck, my '01 TiBook was way better!) as well as a black border and glass screen like the current MBs and MBPs.
