Is there a hack or a plugin to make Terminal.app full-screen without logging in as >console ? What I'd like is a key command that would make it full-screen but still retain easy access to the gui when I need it. As for the why, it's that when I edit in vim, for example, or when I'm ftping to a server, I don't need the gui but would rather have the Terminal window take up as much of my 12 inch screen as possible.

Terminal > Window settings > Select "Window" in dropdown and play with the rows and columns until your screen is mostly filled.

Window->Zoom will fill the screen, but you'll still have a window border. If you are asking how to make the whole screen be the content (text) of the Terminal window, I don't know the answer. But without the window border you wouldn't have the scrollbar, so I'm not sure why you'd want that.
