My apologize if this has been talked about already.

I set up my Gmail account in Mail.app just fine. It downloaded all my messages (and while it grouped the sent emails into the inbox, argh) everything is working.

However, I want to make Gmail work how I have Hotmail working in Mail. I want so that each time Mail syncs with the server, if I've deleted a message in the web mode of Gmail, it removes it from my Mail.app library, or if I delete a message with Mail.app, it removes it from Gmail.

Obviously, I don't want to remove the messages when I download them from the server, since I want the ability to check and reference my emails from other computers.

I don't know if there is a solution, but whatever people can help me with would be much appreciated.

This is how I do it.

I forward my primary email to a gmail account, then use the gmail account to forward to my private mailbox (that has imap). By doing this, gmail acts as a spam filter, an archive, and webmail for when I do need it. I use mail.app to check my private mailbox. So gmail and my imap mailbox is sync'd, with gmail being the "middle man"

In another words, if you use gmail as your primary email account, then forward all the emails to another email that gives you imap access.

i'm not so sure if the imap server syncs back to gmail... since gmail is pop, it only downloads it to a server, it might keep a copy, but that's about all it does.

I think in that paradigm the "sync'd" copy is the private IMAP... yes, I also do not know of a way to do what is desired with GMail. It just isn't designed that way... when Google decided they were going to out-do everyone in terms of storage space, it was because they strategically *want* you to keep all those old e-mails on your GMail account.

synching gmail and mac

I was instructed to import my mac mail in order to access my extensive address book in gmail, however I did not realize that this would permanently import all of my mac mail to the gmail account. Have tried creating a filter to send the @mac.com mail back to the mac account with no success. Also tried to just forward all mail to mac account, with no success.
I never intended to discontinue my mac account use ... please help!!! I just want to keep the two accounts separate as they were before but keep the address copied into gmail.
Is there a way to do this I hope???? Rather urgent to get this cleared up.
Many thanks.
