Fun little applications (useful and not) to have on your Mac

I'm relatively new to Macs as I've only had my Macbook for about two months. What are some good programs to have that improve your Mac functionality? I'm a college student so anything that would be an addition to productivity would be a plus. Also, are there any little useful/interesting little programs that you have on your Mac that you can recommend? I currently only use Safari, iTunes, MS Word, Adium, Transmission, and VLC player on a regular basis.
