I just reinsatlled Leopard on my early 2008 macbook pro and for some reason now when i press F1 or something, it does the special funtion for that key without pressing fn key...when i bought the laptop it it didnt used to do that...

What happened?

Check in your System Preferences, under Keyboard & Mouse/Keyboard. There's a tickbox in there that'll set your F keys as standrad function keys, when this is ticked you'll need to press the Fn key to use the features displayed on the key.
