Anyone know why when copying and/or moving files to external drive another window opens sometimes, while other times it just switches view as normal ? (not just drag and let go, but hold down button)

    It's soo annoying

I wouldn't mind it it stuck to one thing, but constantly has a mind of its own at certain times.

For example, sometimes when copying/moving a large amount of zip files to an external volume (listed in the sidebar), a new window sometimes pops up, and even when browsing into another folder another new pops up...

    Why does this happen ?

Apple tells me its due to file type, but that's not true.

I don't quite understand what you are saying is happening. Are you saying that sometimes when you drag an item over a folder, it opens a new window?

No.... I'm saying when u drag over to an external volume it open a new window. It only works when dragging to external storage. (i think anyway)

However, this only happens sometimes, not others....

If you drag an item over any folder/volume and hold it there for a second or two, it will open a window to show you the contents. It does this so if you want to place the item somewhere inside the target folder.

Even when dragging to external drive it switches view, but in some case it does open new window.

    This is Mouse behavior.

Are you using a bonafide Apple mouse?

Go into System Preferences, click on "mouse" and then muck with the settings for a while. Move the sliders a little to the right, try it, move to the left, try it, etc., etc.
