Funny business w/file names

I regularly D. L. video classes on line. They come as wmv and mp4 files.

The other day the wmv files began arriving wit ASF within the icon. Get info sez it's a wmv.

Flip player won't touch it. The creator of these files tells me my computer is adding the ASF. I tried DL ing the windoze media codec and that didn't seem to work. How can I straighten this out?

Going to a down load site is like wearing a thousand dollar suit and walking around in Mombai in a bad neighborhood.

Try VLC

ASF is the format that preceded WMV.

VLC for Mac should be able to handle anything you throw at it.
