So I went through my hundreds of photos, putting the names to the boxes that iPhoto thought were faces. But, it thought some other things were faces.

I'm sure this will happen with everyone, so I decided to start a thread with funny False-"face detections"

Let me start:
iPhoto thought the following were faces:

-My doorknob in the background of a picture
-My cats ear (several times)

Imagine: A picture with my friend in close up - so a huge face in the photo. What does it tag? A strand of cotton on a by-passer in the background!

:D Sometimes the face recognition can't tell the face when it's so close.

I've got a bunch of track and autocross photos and I find that iPhoto '09 loves to tag car wheels as faces. Other than that little glitch, though, I'm terribly impressed by the feature.

I've had a lot of fun tagging and naming people in my pics.

Completely agreed. It sounds like misery to tag hundreds or thousands of pictures, but it's actually very fun.

Nice One

Ha ha :)

It's a nice feature, faces, but it does need work. At one point iPhoto asked me if a couple of pictures where me : My grandma and some afro american guy, well....I'm not, really...

Fair enough. I didn't want to mention it in case you were worried and edited the photo.

Here's my "huh?" moment:

I thought this one was good, until I named it.

Still, I'm impressed by the detection, but unimpressed by the workflow. I think tagging could go a lot faster with some changes.

I don't really understand your attachment.

Have you discovered "Confirm Name"

I thought that too, until I discovered the "Confirm name" feature, underneath "[PERSON] may also be in the photos below". Click that and iPhoto zooms in on each of the faces where you can click to confirm, or double click to reject (I remember Phil showed you can drag a box over multiples to confirm too somehow). Once you are "done" there, it brings up more photos it thinks might be the same person. (apologies if this was incredibly obvious for everyone...)

True, it takes a while to train iPhoto, but the great thing is it's actually loads of fun, because you get to see all these photos you've forgotten about! :)

Here are a few interesting ones:

1. My wife's jubblies

2. My friend the ear / net

3. JESUS!

It put all of my ex-girlfriends in the same folder, along with my mother.

I guess it works pretty well.
