Walked into a computer store where they were demoing new Macs with the Centris 600-series form factor (pizza box).

Now, every PC user knew that to eject the floppy disc, you'd push the little button just beneath the floppy slot, right?

So when I saw this machine on display for the first time...

Guess what I accidentally did

Funny you mentioned that. There was a Mac in similar design back in grade 9 that had some form of longitudinal Eject button; or so I thought it was. Kept pressing it to eject a floppy and boom! Powered off the machine. Took a few times to realise that Eject was the power button.

Kinda wish the new keyboards powered on the desktop models.

When I first started using a Mac from a life of Windows, I had an utter panic attack when using Photoshop, I accidentlly missed a button on one of the toolboxes, clicked the desktop, and the whole program vanished.

This is, verbatim, what I did the first time I used a Mac. I was scanning business cards for a fundraiser on a workstation, and wasted nearly 1/2 and hour trying to figure out how to get it back on my own before asking someone for help. I didn't want to seem stupid!

Oh, how far I've come!

Ahahahahahaha! I'd have done the same!

It took me 2 months to find the /Applications folder
Spent all that time launching apps via spotlight. Still do to this day but at least i know where to remove them from now!

I think this was the first day i got it( it was a white macbook).
I was trying to log on to somewhere i think hotmail.

I powered my old pc, msn a friend who had a mac " HOW DOES ONE MAKE @ ON A MAC?"
:D

Definitely trying windows shortcuts and being confused about why they don't work :(

I love that!

my biggest problem was for example closing iTunes by hitting the "x" and doing the key command to empty the trash and it not working because the iTunes was still the app selected. i remember when it first happened, i thought i was so cool cause i could empty the trash without having to use the mouse. i was confused for about 2 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong, hitting all kinds of key combinations and songs just started playing and stopping and i was adding system files to my iTunes library. it was a mess.

I don't have any Mac stories because the first computer my family ever had in the house was a Mac. In fact, the only Windows-running PC we've had was a second-hand laptop my grandpa gave me and I was the only one who ever used it.

What I do have is a funny Windows story. I was in Year 3 (so 1999) and the computer rooms were full of PCs running Windows 95 with Kid Pix. I do remember at least one computer running Windows 98 but I don't think it was for student use. So, being used to the System 7.5/Mac OS 8.1 Finder, the only way I knew how to open an application was by navigating the file manager. Yep, that's right, instead of using the Start Menu like a normal person I was clicking through the C: drive. I did eventually learn how the Start Menu worked but it wasn't something that came naturally.

Yes, I do understand there's some irony in that last sentence.
