OK there are time when being a semi or partial geek is worse than being a complete novice. You can think you know what you're doing when if you just left it alone it would have resolved itself.

I have a new Ultra 2. Very happy with it! So the last thing I thought I should do after setup is test the cellular function. Transferring it from my old AW5 was not really smooth. I put my iPhone on Airplane Mode and . . . no cellular. Chat with Apple for an hour or so. Apple refers me to ATT. Three LONG chats with ATT. Finding and entering IMEI and EID numbers. Even take pictures of the settings showing the eSIM appear and, for some reason, disappear. At least 3 unpair and rebuild from fresh starts. Drove into town for a stronger signal but nada. After the last one they told me to wait over night for changes to be applied . . .

Then, this morning, I try it and no luck. But then I notice the little icon that my iPhone is still attached. Even on Airplane Mode with bluetooth and wifi off. I had no idea that there was some private connection between the phone and watch. So I just shut my iPhone down and woohoo, Cellular kicks in and works fine.

Not sure if there's a moral here, but just because you aced Fortran in the punch cards days does not make you a geek.

To turn off all Bluetooth functionality you have to use the Settings app on your iPhone. If you use the control center button it leaves some “essential” connections connected.

Good to know. Thanks!

Did you set up your U2 as new or restore from backup?

It's so quick compared to the phone that I setup as new. The only quirk that I ran into several times is that, in the cellular setup, there was a setup window that it would keep returning too. The last time this happened I just hit the setup later button and proceeded. All would have been fine if I had just shut off my phone to test . . .
