Remember Magsafe? Remember the little fold out tabs on the power block to wrap your cables? Remember the clever battery light indicators blended in to the unibody? No? Neither does Apple, but hey, Touch Bar!

#goingbackwards

I do, but I also remember frayed Magsafe ends, adapter recalls, and having zero good third-party replacement options. Magsafe power adapters were clever, beautiful, and waaaaay too fragile and expensive to replace.

Yes, Apple removed the cable wrap "pop outs" along with about every other feature that made owning a Mac laptop worth the cost (MagSafe, USB A ports, HDMI ports, SD card slots...)

Bingo. I like being able to charge the current MBP on any of the ports w/ USB-C, but pretty much everything else about the charger is a drastic step back. No MagSafe. No light indicator. No flaps to allow it to wrap around the charger.

I've never had a MagSafe-equipped Apple charger fail. And they could engineer the MBP to accept power both via MagSafe and USB-C.

Almost everyone I know that had a Macbook went through at least one, and my wife’s slightly-frayed cable actually started smoking; there’s very good reason why Apple lost the class-action lawsuit over Magsafe chargers.

It’s not bashing Apple or those that still enjoy their products. They are legitimate points and facts that Apple has removed many useful features with no real thought to how it impacts the end user. It’s the old “our way or no way” Apple attitude. Which used to work because of the extra nuance and features that Apple had that weren’t found in other brands (looking at you Mag Safe). I am hoping my 2013 MB Pro lasts forever. No dongles and all the features I appreciate.

Dude Mag Safe, lol, who freaking cares? I had an old MBP with one, why is everyone so in love with it? It was fine, no complaints or anything but I didn’t take it to bed with me like half of the posters evidently did. I much prefer the uniformity of USB-C. Of course instead of crying about USB-A ports, and dongles, I just picked up a few USB-C accessories, problem solved, tears avoided. I do have a TB3 dock, so I suppose that is like a giant dongle... But I won’t buy any new devices unless I can charge it with USB-C. It’s time for the world to move on. Also, I would have been irritated if Apple would have swapped any of the a USB-C TB3 ports for a USB-A.
