Hello,

I have a mac mini (late 2014) with a fusion drive.

In 6 months time I had to reinstall OS X 3 times because of failure from the SSD part of the fusion drive.

I was thinking about installing the OS X on the HDD part or buying a new SSD (I don't need a HDD anymore because I have a NAS). I'm tired of reinstalling over and over again.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem ? I don't know a lot about SSD's but it doesn't seem normal to me that this kind of failure occurs after 4 years of usage.

Thanks

SSD's aren't that expensive any more. Just replace the fusion drive with a decent sized SSD.

A 2014 iMac has a thunderbolt2 port.

USB3 external SSDs run as fast as thunderbolt2 SSDs, and you get much more for your money that way.

Boot and run from a USB3 SSD (such as a Samsung t5 or Sandisk Extreme).
That's all you need.
