My S5 seems to prompt me to enter it regularly, when first putting on in the morning and also randomly when clearing notifications. Much more than my S4.
It shouldn’t. Is your band tight enough? The only time it asks me for a PIN is when I put it on in the morning and I’m not near my phone to authenticate.

Yes, it’s indeed crazy tech that’s already out there.

Except that tech is obviously rushed. You can see the pixels covering the camera, and there are parts in that video where you can see it glitch over top of them when he’s moving back and forth. Pretty bad looking.

That said, of course that was their goal to rush it to market to be first. The next gen will surely be better.

Like most of you guys, a camera and Touch ID are at the very bottom of my wish list for the Apple Watch. My biggest gripes are battery life and connectivity. I know the battery issue won't be solved anytime soon but I wish they would put in a better cellular modem if one exists (or create one). I stopped cellular service on my AW3 after several months of frustration with poor signal strength (on Verizon network). I am now gun shy about getting another cellular model because I have no confidence I will get sufficient signal strength to feel comfortable leaving my iPhone at home.

I'm not sure why you say it's rushed. You don't know how long they have been working on it. It's tech that could be better for sure. It's like saying the first gen Apple Watch was rushed because it wasn't water resistant, with no always-on display and slow apps. Technology keeps getting better.

Please make it round, square watches are ugly. I hate the aesthetic.
I hope they will never do that. A round shape was ok as long as a watch was mainly used for checking the time.
Makes no sense to waste space.
Times change and so do watches.

if they would make TouchID "mandatory" for eg Apple Pay - I will ditch the Apple Watch ... I had a 50-60% success rate on iPhone and on my MBP it's slightly better but still <75% :(
You must have weird fingers or did not do the setup well. And for iPhone there is Face ID.

very dry skin, and others have reported issues too ... for the last year or so on my 6S I updated Touch ID almost every month - I do not want to go back to that. On my MBP, I have to lick my finger before using touchid, not very pleasant at times but luckily AW is nicely integrated with Big Sur now and Touch ID is not needed too often

just another thing I would have to put tape over
yes, good point ... when you think about it, what if you're in the bathroom and the camera comes on accidentally ... the last thing people would want is an embarrassing situation where someone can see what you're doing in the bathroom. yikes!

I don’t mean to be pedantic, but you should only refer to it as a patent “application” in the period before it grants. After that, it is a “patent”. Also, a patent application is published (so no longer secret) 18 months after filing (or 18 months after its priority date, if it has one). A patent is granted once examined and deemed allowable by the patent office.

poLight TLens are a piezo actuated polymer glass camera thats allready used in two watches, xiaomi and xun. Their Tlens are also widely used in a number of patents, and might appear in under screen cams next year. Their Tlens are also used in a new barcode scanning engine. Low power consumption, no interference, low footprint +++

Good to see Apple investing R and D into Touch ID. Hopefully some form of it returns back to the iPhone ASAP. Face ID works well enough, but the IR scanners, dot projector etc give me actual tension in my eyes and headaches so it’s useless for me, so I use PIN only on my iPhone 12 mini.

Never mind Touch ID etc, just let us select a text alert for the watch instead of it being lumped in with other notifications.

Korean J2C will do IRIS scanning in smartphone and smartwatch! Would be an awsome upgrade for Apple Watch!
