Sorry, there's no room for a blood-glucose monitor because of the new wallpaper pattern scanner.

I upvoted you because funny, but I do like this idea from Apple. I'd love to have a watch that changed faces to match my clothes or my watch band.

Watches are fashion items. I have a (third-party, not Apple) stainless steel band for my Apple watch, when I could have simply used a piece of string to tie it to my wrist.

But jeez. Now people will fight over "rare" wristbands to get cool watch faces.
That's enough capitalism for one day, thanks.
If this is going to make you go on an anti-capitalism tangent, anything in the world would.

I see no connection here.

Skip the sensor, gimme 30 days battery
Build a Time Machine and give them the tech to make that possible in a watch like this. Before you point to a Garmin or something else that has longer battery, the Apple Watch does more.

Based on the article, it is the watch face that would change color, not the band. Potentially the color of your clothing or of the watch band could trigger the change in the watch face color. Nothing about changing band colors that I could see in the article.
Oh thanks, I got that one wrong. Then it seems even more useless. Why would you want any other combination than white letters on a black background as a watch face? Maximum contrast will need the least power to make the time readable.

If it’s related to color scan, you would just need to look for a picture in your phone and put your watch on top.

Also I don’t think it’s related to exclusive watch faces, just that watch faces that have color choices will sync with your band

My watch already does this via Biometric Interface.

When I attach my watch, it relies on two forward facing optical sensors in the orbit of my cranium to sample proximate colors, send a biochemical signal to a digit at the end of my arm to long press the watch’s face, then automatically change to another face of similar color, if necessary.

Seems more lucrative to implement a sensor where the band connects. Then you can lock this feature to first party bands and drive sales. You’re welcome Apple.

This makes sense, just like MagSafe knows what color MagSafe Wallet your phone has attached...when it's an Apple MagSafe Wallet. This will be Apples way of encouraging people to buy only Apple Bands and justifying a new Watch connector, it'll also Watch Face "Focus" modes so you put on your workout band and its setup just the way you want for a work out, or your classy band for a nice mean, or your work band, or your new ____ band with the _____ sensor so it can track your _______. There will still be knock off Amazon bands, but they won't change Apple Watch Modes or do any of the cool stuff that the new watch bands do.

You have that choice already.

This isn't new. The iPhone already does this with the Apple leather cases. If you attach a red case, you get a red MagSafe logo appear. If you attach a green case you get a green MagSafe logo etc. Been happening for the last 2 years
I mean what you're talking about isn't a light sensor, more so a trick with the magsafe system. But, yeah, that just proves even more how dumb this is, because embedding a tag of sorts in the bands that the watch can read will be more accurate and cheaper anyway.

If BMW has a car that can change its colour, it should not be too complicated to build a watch band that can do that. It will be bad for watch band sales though.
I disagree with this argument. building those multicolor e-ink displays for the concept car took BMW years. Also, it looks terrible. Those panels can't bend, have to be huge and bulky, and are extremely expensive. The technology isn't there yet, although I agree the concept is very cool.

I just wish the aluminum watch matched the milanese loop. The loop is a lot shinier than the aluminum finish. Need to get stainless steel to match, which costs hundreds more.
Just buy a stainless watch on eBay second-hand. I paid $250 for a stainless Series 7 with a matching Milanese.

Skip the sensor, gimme 30 days battery
What are you doing with your watch where you need 30 days of battery? Ignoring how bulky or impractically large the watch would need to be, I remind you fast charging makes a quick 15 minutes off the wrist lasts the watch the rest of the day.

They could pull this off (band wise) with a simple NFC chip. Ive always wondered why they didn't do it.

I wonder sometimes whether Apple files patents like this to dupe Samsung into wasting millions on copying useless features. Also, I wonder how the colour matching works if the band fades, gets dirty, or wet. Finally, I think a fair more functional wallpaper for an Apple Watch would be something like a relationship status indicator when going to pubs or bars.

Color-matching Apple Watch faces? At last, I can finally be extra stylish

I say, even though I mostly wear black and gray
Black is the new black.
