Future of MacBook Pro

Really? With similar core and RAM specs? Well that's genuinely interesting for me to know, and if that's really the case then that's me holding on to the M2 Max. I guess I wouldn't be missing out too much on the Golden Gate features..

• MBP 16" M2 Max 12 core, 64 GB RAM, MacOS Sequoia
• MBP 16" M5 Pro, 18 core, 48 GB RAM, MacOS Tahoe

The M5 Pro has less RAM simply because the new machines are so damn expensive that it went over the cost my employer allows for computers. Also why I had to pick Pro instead of Max.

I use the M2 Max for my personal stuff and the most demanding things are running Cubase with a pile of VST plugins and some programming.

I use the M5 Pro for my work as a full stack developer, so the most taxing things to run are IDEs, containers and test automation.

For either of these usecases there's just no real difference. At my company you keep a dev machine for 3 years, then you can choose to either buy it or send it back. I don't think I'll buy the M5 Pro, it just doesn't do anything truly better that I'd care. If the RAM costs keep staying as they are, that M2 Max's extra RAM will be long term more valuable than the latest and greatest processors.

Otherwise the design, display etc are too similar to care one way or the other. So if I were you, I'd just wait until Apple redesigns the Macbook Pro and decide then.
