If you thought three years/releases were long, you better brace yourself because how soon do you think the X design will be fundamentally changed? My guess is never. There is nothing to change anymore when the front is basically all screen. They will release different sizes and colours and eventually get rid of the notch (but not as soon as you may think/hope), but that‘s about it for the smartphone concept as we know it wrt exterior design. Maybe foldable screens will become a thing, but that will also take quite a while and maybe something completely else like smart glasses will be here faster and replace the smartphone itself. In the meantime, the X is what you get.

Yeah, I suppose you are right. They can always do different things with the chassis I guess, but major design innovations are likely going to be a thing of the past. Ive been waiting for this moment for years. Different size screens, and different display technologies for future builds. Heck. Displays themselves may be obsolete in the future.

Reactions: the future
I can just imagine this copy line: Say hello to the future with the all-new iPhone 37s.
By the time they get to 37, you'll get an audio feed directly to your brain's audio center telling you to drop by your local Apple Doc to get your implant replaced with the new iCell personalized Knowledge Assistant.

Not smart glasses but AiContacts which project a holographic image 20in in front of you. Icons float around and when you focus on one of them, it enlarges and opens. Look down at the desk and a keyboard is projected on which you type, the optics sense your finger positions. Blink twice to unlock (the system checks your retinal pattern), blink left then right to close, three lefts to activate the highlighted command within the focused icon, three rights to return to Home. But don't be looking at someone while all that blinking is going on or you might find you've got a date for dinner.

There won't be a 9 that's newer than an 8 but older than a 10.

iPhone Rich
iPhone Poor

Easy.
