I switched from 11 Pro to SE2 because of PWM . Should I buy an 11 now for future use or wait for the rumoured SE plus to safe guard myself for my next phone?

Edit: have edited post to be a bit clearer (I hope)

Edit: I’m not planning on switching any time soon. I’m simply asking when I need/want to upgrade what should I do as I can’t use a phone with OLED screen.

I would keep your SE 2020 until the new iPhones come out and then try them to see how you get on with them. You have two weeks to try. If one of the new phones works for you - all good. If not, you can return it and get an iPhone 11 at a lower price than it is now.

For those who suffer from the PWM flicker what will you do for your next phone?

The SE2 is my Plan B in case the iPhone 12 5.4" doesn't pan out.

I don't understand.

You switched from 11Pro to an SE2 (did PWM influence this decision?). Now you're asking if you should buy an 11 because...?

I'd just use what you've got and replace it when you want/need to.

Not sure why you’re not understanding but to answer your question yes I changed phones because of PWM. Forgive me if I’m wrong but the 11 doesn’t have an OLED screen and the new 12s are rumoured to be all OLED lineup. So no I don’t want to change phones right now, this post is asking opinions to future proof my phone because eventually I’ll have to upgrade from the SE2

Why not keep your SE (2) until you know for sure about possible PWM with the new models?

I plan on keeping my SE2 for the foreseeable future but when I want/need to upgrade I don’t see many choices that don’t have a OLED screen. I guess I can only hope that there will be an iPhone at a later date I can use

If Apple continues with OLED, it looks like you may be stuck, unless something changes with the production / calibration of the screen.

I wasn’t sure if you were debating buying an iPhone 11 right now when you have the perfectly fine SE2. If you’re missing the full screen experience iPhone, I’d say get the 11 (At a discount!) after the 12 series is announced.

It doesn’t really matter which LCD iPhone you get right now, as they’ll both probably be EOL around the same time (many years from now!)

You can’t really “future proof” an iPhone other than buying the most recent model 🤷🏻‍

You’ll find easily for the next couple of years the iphone 11 at 3rd party resellers.
as you can still find 6s, 7 and 8 new even if Apple doesn’t sell them.

As far as future proofing I would imagine the SE 2020 will be supported for years to come just based on support for the old SE. I agree with ya on a new SE plus. I would buy that in a heartbeat.

Haven’t had a plus sized phone since the 6 plus but if that’s going to be my only option going forward, I’ll have to get one

Wait to see what is available when you do need to upgrade. The SE2 should serve you well for a number of years, none of us can even predict what the climate will be like in a few years time, there may or the may not be an LCD iPhone. You may just need to get what’s available at the time or get a new battery in your SE2.

Well, If rumors comes true, we will have a LCD based iPhone 12 without 5G for cheaper entry price. This is the iPhone 12 I will purchase, if it exist

There’s plenty of data supporting that the SE +2 is coming in the 1st, maybe second quarter of 2021. That’s a long wait, and there is the opportunity that something could change in Apple‘s trajectory where they might scrap that device, but I think it’s likely given the success of still offering touch ID in a similar form factor with an entry-level price point.

I don’t understand why you would get an 11 as “future proofing.” You have an SE 2020, so you’ve got the same SoC as the 11. You’re not getting much out of an 11 you don’t already have.

I don’t know what “PWM” stands for. I’m lost there.

I understand some people have issues with OLED screens. For that reason, I can’t imagine Apple moving all of their phones to OLED. I know that’s the rumor for iPhone12. You should wait to see how that pans out.

If the lineup is all OLED, then you’re stuck in place with the latest hardware you can get right now. You can always buy old devices down the road, so no rush to get it now either.

It’s not clear to me what you’re goal is or what you think you’ll miss out on if you don’t buy something right now.

In the US at least, the 6s, 7 and 8 still being sold via authorized retailers are typically locked to prepaid carriers and require 6-12 months service prior to unlock.

Personally, I would only buy either new or Apple certified refurb SIM-free so for me, availability once Apple stops officially carrying the models becomes very iffy.

That said, I don't see the iPhone 11 being discontinued after the iPhone 12 series is released and as mentioned, the SE2 has the same chipset anyway so they're pretty much equally future proof.

PWM = Pulse Width Modulation
Some displays use it for dimming causing flickers at low frequency.

Edit: typing mistake

PWM is screen flicker of OLED screens. I have epilepsy so this isn’t good for me. I’m in no rush to get another phone as I’ll use my SE for the foreseeable future but when I need to upgrade where do I stand? Simply all I was asking is do I get an 11 now( to use late on ) as rumours are leading to an all OLED line up . Most opinions are leading towards wait and see what happens or just buy an older device. Thanks for your input

Ok. I understand the issue for you with OLED.

I still don’t understand why you would even consider an iPhone 11. What does the 11 offer that makes you interested?

an LCD screen. Over any new feature that Apple has currently or will offer in the future.. this is my number one priority, after researching how OLED screens can affect me I can’t get my hopes up
With some feature if the phone doesn’t have an LCD screen. This is also on advice from my neurologist and not just my research.
