Hey everyone,

I thought this would be a good chance to post about our most wanted features. Some people my have some great ideas that others may not have considered. Then with all our wanted features, we could submit a feature request to Apple rather than just talking about it!

Submit requests:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html

Mine:

1. Picture in picture, just like iPads on iOS 9
2. Ability to store movies and Tv shows on the device
3. Podcast app

Hey why not! In order of wanting:

Critical:
1) Fix the discoverability issue in App Store

Must Have:
2) Add a "My Feed" for TV shows like in Roku

Wish List:
3) Allow Logitech Harmony to communicate through Bluetooth instead of IR
4) Keyboard + Siri from my iPhone
5) The white background doesn't really bother me, but picking themes would be a nice touch

With software updates to the current hardware:
1.) Universal remote feature using IR from the Siri remote.
2.) More voice commands with simple keywords to help eliminate false results and incorrect searches.
3.) Allow the Apple TV to function as a standalone media server (streaming from network attached drives, no PC required, this may require upgraded hardware).
4.) Support for iPhone/iPad remote control (i.e. the Remote app under iOS).
5.) Bluetooth keyboard support.

And in the next hardware update:
1.) Better remote (the usability of the current Siri remote is pretty poor).
2.) Better support for function as a standalone media server.

This is an idea I had way back in the iOS 6 days, which I thought I'd bring up again given the new capabilities and the whole debate about a web browser:
Something that has bugged me for awhile is that, even though apps are capable outputting a seperate image on an AirPlay connected TV, Apple has made almost no effort to implement this in their own software. I think Safari could particularly benefit from this feature. With that in mind I have produced a very basic illustration of how it could work, using the iPad as a basis:

So starting with the iPad you see that the web page window has shunk down to 16:9, with thumbnails over each tab to take advantage of the extra UI space. Meanwhile on the TV you simply see the web page, in full screen and totally unobstructed by the user interface.
With the new AppleTV the pages could actually be loaded on the device, so the iPad/iPhone would just provide a more suitable interface for browsing the web.

Beyond that, give game developers the option to require a game controller (with appropriate warnings made in the app store).

Missing from the aTV3 experience - iOS Remote App, Trailers App and Podcast App

Improvements to the aTV4 experience - better Siri integration across Apps, Multi-user controls, improved text entry, more game controller support

Like to see in aTV5 - UHD, Optical Output, GB Ethernet, more TV controls on remote (e.g. AV switching)

I just used this link to submit my request to reinstate Bluetooth keyboard connectivity and a functioning Remote app.

It's very important for anyone that wants features to use the link provided above and submit your thoughts and opinions directly to Apple.

-Ability to control Homekit devices using Siri Remote

1) Allow Siri to search iTunes purchases. Currently she can only search what's available in the iTunes Store. So if something that you have purchased is no longer available, or has been updated to a newer version, then she can't see that you own it... So you have to manually go in to purchases. She also doesn't default to the version you own when multiple versions are available.

2) Allowallow Siri to search the home homesharing app.

3) HomeKit support.

4) iOS Remote App. Preferably something completely new... That mirrors what's on the Apple TV to the iOS device... You shouldn't even need to look at your TV to select content and control it.

5) A custom feed for new TV episodes, The ability to organize movies and TV shows into collections.

6) Background support for third party music.

7) keyboard and mouse support

8) the rumored TV service

9) podcast app, audiobook app, Safari, folders, FaceTime (they could make a camera accessory)

10) Alarms and sleep timers.

11) Handoff!!!!

12) The ability to mirror certain notifications from the iPhone.

Wishlist:

1) SIRI talk back to you like in iOS
2) Bluetooth keyboard support (possibly even mouse)
3) Web browser

Do you want DVR too? please, no browser. This is TV, not computer. using a product for a wrong purpose can cause so much problems and complication.

The reason apple product is so polished compared to the competition is because Apple is very focused on specific purposes of their product. The other companies try to do hundred of things but none of them works right.

why headphone jack while it already supports Bluetooth headphone? do the same thing but increase the cost.

Because Bluetooth headphones are an additional cost... It would also be nice to be able to page the remote it's kind of easy to lose.

I don't think it would need a separate headphone jack maybe just a lighting to headphone adapter... In fact I wonder if they already included the possibility for the future update.

but adding headphone jack to the remote is free? so Apple would give free headphone jack and cost to make it work?

I think the poster was referring to a future version of the product...

Also who knows if the lightning connector inside the remote is connected to the blue tooth... They might already be the possibility of an adapter.

And the doctor would be a lot cheaper than buying a nice. Bluetooth headphones... Specially if you already own nice headphones.

Obligatory: :D

I just submitted a request to have TV shows searchable by season, instead of the bizarre horizontal sequence from the very first episode to the newest.

Actually this is already a feature on the newer Rokus, and frankly its awesome. You don't have to worry about syncing or charging a second device... just plug in some headphones in and it automatically starts playing though them (muting the TV at the same time). I believe Roku uses a proprietary RF technology for better sound quality as well.

EDIT: The Nvidia Shield TV has this function as well. As does Fire TV, if you buy the gaming edition.

Anyway, Apple could also potentially implement this sort of functionality without any new hardware just via the remote app. (provided its ever made compatible with the new AppleTV)

chiwaw... Just gotta say that your avatar cracks me up. Is that your dog? LOL.

Haha no thankfully (he looks like a true killer)! I typed a random name "chiwaw" when I registered here, and when I had to pick an avatar I thought my handle sounded like "chihuahua" so might as well try to find the most ridiculous looking chihuahua picture I could find :D (turns out I had a LOT of options)
