I picked up a loaded M1Max MBP 16 yesterday and so far Al Dente is working well at keeping charge 80% when plugged in. This is for those interested in maximizing battery lifespan if you keep your machine plugged in most of the time....
I see. If I shut down the MBP, Does it retain the max battery setting or not?as long as the app is running before sleep it will maintain at whatever charge level you selected
If you shut it down it will lose the setting. Not sure why you need to shut it down though. Set it at the setting you want, leave it plugged in and close the lid. It will hold at whatever setting you placed.I see. If I shut down the MBP, Does it retain the max battery setting or not?
Oh. Just making sure since idk what will happen if it's turned off does the setting sticks or not. Thanks for the info thoughIf you shut it down it will lose the setting. Haven’t tried that specifically but I have done a calibration which discharges down to 15%, then all the way back to 100%, holds for an hour and then discharges to 80%.Does the discharge function work just fine too?
Thanks! I’ll give it a shot.I use the pro version on my 13” MB M1 and 16” MB M1 Pro with no issues. Set it and forget it. You can get the free and pro versions at:

I have been using AlDente on two M1 MacBooks since it became availble for Silicon Macs nearly a year ago. Not sure what "the issue with eventually having to reset the SMC" is referring to.Thinking about purchasing Aldente but hoping they've resolved the issue with eventually having to reset the SMC. Can anyone provide any updates?

There isn't actually a way of resetting SMC on silicon Macs, but the nearest equivalent is shutting down, disconnect everything including power, wait 30 secs and reboot.
AlDente advise that if you want to uninstall AlDente and revert to standard, you should set AlDente to 100% then do the above....is that what you are referring to?
Thanks. As is the way of things there are certainly posts around that confirm AlDente isn't perfect for everyone all the time...all I can say is that I haven't experienced that on my two M1 MacBooks, so far.?Thank you for the information. The SMC issue I was referring to is mentioned in the link below.

Battery Health Management vs Al Dente
In my experience (and that of others who've posted on this subject) AlDente does a far better job than BHM when it works. I've removed AlDente because I was having problems with it that were becoming a P.I.T.A.: It would work well for a while, then stop working and caused charging issues that...forums.macrumors.com
I've used the feature several times on my 14' M1 Pro it works flawlessly.Does the discharge function work just fine too?
If the app remembers your setting, just have it automatically launch as a log-in item.Oh. Just making sure since idk what will happen if it's turned off does the setting sticks or not. Thanks for the info though
