I dont plan on pre ordering..I do have a Discover card so would this also work at Best Buy online(They will give me 287 for my old iPad but Im waiting to see if anyone buys it off of me on craigslist) so was thinking, trade in old iPad, get store credit, come home and use my discover card to purchase this thing online, get 10 percent off cash back

I did the whole ShopDiscover purchase, Cancelled, and Discover Deals re-purchase thing myself also. Saved myself an additional $20 too by purchasing from their Education Store instead of the regular store. They have never checked or asked even when I did in-store pickup. I just use my son's school ID if they every asked :D

It says this

Offer not valid on iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3, iPhone 6 Plus, pre-order or pre-sale merchandise, iTunes, Apple One to One Membership, Bose products, Apple in-store tutorial services, Gift wrap, gift card, gift certificates, shipping, taxes, or other service fees

So does that mean what I think it means, that its NOT valid for the iPad Air 2 or do they just mean pre orders for the iPad Air 2..Im not pre ordering anyway, waiting til after it goes on the market to buy it

Do you have experience with getting Discover Deals/ShopDiscover cashback from Discover in the past when purchasing through the education store? I'm wondering if it'll still work.

As someone mentioned earlier, those exclusions don't apply when buying through the Discover Deals site, only for ShopDiscover.

I also used the educational discount in addition to both cash backs. I hope it does work. The only problem I foresee is the fine print saying "offer not valid in combination with any other offers" so I wonder if a student discount qualifies as an "offer". Hmm.

I want to say it does qualify as an offer. I think the discover deals are set by the stores, hence why it may take up to eight weeks for them to post. I've been shafted on a technicality before by bestbuy when I bought my iPad mini in February. Offer didn't restrict tablets, but restricted laptops. To best buy, the iPad is a laptop.

I should be able to, however, get 10% cash back on my iPhone 6(not a 6 plus) purchase.

Best Buy categorizes the iPad as a laptop? That's... really... stupid...

But yeah, I have a feeling they will cite a technicality and not give me the additional 5% cashback.

I did talk to discover about it and one of the supervisors in the cashback dept gave me 10-15 bucks credit in my cashback rewards.

hmmm it's all mungled. Though if you enter the deals page via the discover deals link, you get the less restrictive terms. If you enter via the old Shop Discover way and choose Apple from the pull down list, you get the more restrictive terms.

That;s a little tricky though since they want a dated ad usually. I tried this once. Not many deals on the internet have a date on the ad.
I just chose my citi thank you preferred card and it does price match automatically I think and plus I have 0% apr so I'll just carry the balance for a while.

I did a similar purchase way back in 2012 when Apple released the iPad3 by using ShopDiscover and I got BOTH the Education Store discount and the 5% rebate from Discover Card. That is why I did it this way again. I fully expect to get my 5% Online Purchase Rebate for Oct-Dec spending up to the $1500 limit. The other 5% DiscoverDeals Rebate would be a nice bonus if it comes through.

The 5% online purchase rebate shouldn't be a problem (since it's an online purchase). I was wondering about Discover Deals 5% working with the Education discount.

Please report back if it works out for you.

Do you think if I get the 90 day price protection & 1 year extended warranty even if I partially pay with Discover.. I have gift cards to be used on this order..

95% sure you won't. Normally you have to charge the entire purchase to the credit card.

Ah so it's not actually taken off the price, just cashback?

but then you take that cashback and order one (or more) of their giftcards. many are buy a $25 giftcard for $20 in cashback bucks. then you get even MORE!

i buy starbucks cards with my cashback bonus! :p i figure why just use it at face value to pay off my bill? when i can get more?

i've gotten it with the government discount in the past. i just logged in to discover, went to apple, then went to the government section. got my cash back. same with refurbished.

Is this with the Discover IT card too? Chase Freedom's quarterly 5% is only at amazon and department stores I don't go to :(.

Yes, it works with the education discount. Bought my retina MBP last year with this same stacking cash back offer (5% on online shopping, 5% for Apple Store). Ended up getting over $200 back!

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know :D

Uh oh! Looks like Discover Deals now has added the iPad Air 2 to it's EXCLUSION list. So maybe there will be no double dipping anymore.

Yeah, it appears all exclusions are now in sync between Discover Deals and ShopDiscover -- which makes sense.

That exclusion is in the Apple Store, but I don't see the same exclusion in Best Buy.

In Best Buy the iPad in the "Computers and Tablets" section, but when you drill down one level, it is actually in the "Tablet" sub-section...so who knows.

But none of the stores have it locally and the version I want only is available for in store pickup, so who knows?
