Microsoft has managed to break a very basic Outlook function – the ability to include the previous email in a reply.

The issue, which afflicts Outlook for Mac, was introduced in version 16.110, build 26061317, which rolled out to users last week. Before the update, the original message appeared in the reply window. After the update, nothing.

This is what i did to fix it:

Outlook for Mac – Fix for the Email Forwarding Issue (Version 16.110)

Microsoft introduced a bug in Outlook 16.110 that causes forwarded emails to include only the message header, while the original email content is missing.

Solution: Downgrade to Outlook 16.109.3

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Click Help → Check for Updates.
  3. Disable Automatic Updates.
  4. Completely quit Outlook.
  5. Delete Outlook from the Applications folder.
  6. Download Outlook 16.109.3:

  7. Run the downloaded package and complete the installation.
  8. Start Outlook.
After the downgrade, email forwarding should work normally again and include the full original message content.

However, even with automatic updates disabled, I was immediately greeted by the Microsoft Update app again, trying to convince me to update. Thanks, but no thanks. 🙂

I'm surprised Microsoft Update didn't automatically install the newer, broken version, because Microsoft doesn't understand "consent".
