I can't believe I missed this but about a week ago, the Tap Critic released a news/update video on youtube about G-Map, regarding the "misunderstanding" of what what features were expected for 3.0 and what actually came out.

Some quick thoughts after seeing video:

-They're "promising" landscape and all the other features seen in the previous Tap Critic video.

-I didn't realize Sean was the developer of G-Map. Heh. Thought he was a PR Rep. ;)

-Contacts integration looks like a go. For the record, Sygic, AT&T Navigator/Telenav and now G-Map will all be including contacts integration in future updates.

-Still no mention of ipod integration.

In its present form, I actually think G-Map is a decent application. It's good, fairly reliable and it has the best voice quality of all the GPS apps, IMO. If X-Roads finally delivers on their promise, G-Map might be the one app that TomTom really needs to worry about.

ya i'm hoping ipod and landscape is released soon....

I like the app... i got pointed to it after listening to a MacBreak Weekly episode a couple of months ago and i bought it then for my ipod touch in anticipation of me getting an iphone yesterday....

i haven't messed with it much on the iphone yet.... and i've been reading so much on MR about Navigon but i'm hoping this will work for me.... i'll check the youtube out...

thanks for the update on an app that i don't see much talked about on MR

G-Map is craptastic. Constant uturns = lame. Even when they are turned OFF...

looks like i'll just let it all shake out between Navigon & TomTom, instead of buying another $70 app I'll just keep my Garmin handy....

None of the existing GPS apps available for the iPhone can considered perfect; they've all got their own strengths and weaknesses. I don't think G-Map is any more "craptastic" than Navigon, which has it's own set of deficiencies: inaccurate routing, a POI database from 1999, takes up to 2 minutes to lock on to an initial GPS signal, etc -- you get the drift. We could pick apart any of these apps.

That's the beauty of Apple's App Store "it just works" model: all these apps will keep upgrading and improving and all we have to do
is click a couple of buttons.

Probably a good idea, though I'd guess you wouldn't be disappointed with Navigon if you needed something on the iPhone now.

I hope they come out soon with SAYING the name of the street to turn on instead of just the distance. I can't relate to just the distance. I had given up on this App until I heard this.
    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SOOOON!:(:(:(

Landscape mode, other features already mentioned, and please make the voice LOUDER. The actual voice is nice, but increase the volume level to make it as loud as other sounds, eg. music with 3.01.

I use the app when I don't use my TomTom hardware. The price was fantastic when I bought it.

Overall I am extremely impressed with G-Map Canada. It has its little issues (like most I am sure) I have seen stand alones do some pretty crazy things so I know its not an Iphone app only issue. An update was submitted to Apple. Hopefully out to the public mid September according to the post. So hopefully we will see some much requested features being added.
