This seller has been hawking this card on Amazon and eBay for a while:

I know that Sonnet had an Aria Extreme PCI card (N80211-PCI), which was 802.11n compatible. Not sure if the G3 would be the best match for it as it might have required Leopard although you could hack Tiger to work with it on a G5.

This one is pricier but if you recognise the card on your browser searches, you might get if for a more reasonable amount

And, as always, Lowendmac is still a worthwhile source of contemporary info for older Macs. Whether you can still pick up any of the recommended compatible cards is another matter, of course.

Thanks for the info guys. Posting this now from the G3, now with AirPort. The earlier F5D7000 card was the trick! Everything is working fine over wireless G, natively in Tiger.

I'm not sure if there are any more mods I want to do, this seems like about as far as I can reasonably take a machine from 1999. The fact that I'm typing this on it is incredible to me.

Just wish I could speed up TFF a little more. I'm using the FoxPEP configuration and I'm not going to complain about the page rendering time, I just wish there was less lag when typing. Maybe this is just how it is with a G3.

My 500mhz iBook G3 is the same way when running TFF with FoxPEP installed.

Thanks for the tip, reporting now from IceWeasel with the IE8 user agent option selected. It's a little less laggy for sure! Either way, didn't buy this Mac to surf the web with. Just cool to see what's possible.

Office 2004 is installed, this will be my HQ for beer brewing recipes and field note storage.

@feelingsupersonic typing on the forums is vastly improved (zero lag) if you either disable JavaScript in about:config or click the little corner gear icon on the MR text editor box to switch to plain text - you can then just use BBCode style formatting for links, bold, italics etc
