Trying to connect G3 PPC running OSX panther to Ext HD created by my new MBP.. Says disk failed to initialise or something similar.. Whats the problem here connecting ? Soemthing to do with dofferent file system ie G3 in HFS ??

Go to disk utility on the the G3 PPC with Panther. Then try formatting but first go to the Erase tab then select Mac OS Extended (Journaled). And tell me if this works.

Your Intel Mac probably made a GUID instead of an Apple Partition Map (for PPC Macs) when it formatted new hard drive.

Google those terms. *I think* GUID is what it's called for Intel Mac formatting.
