Is this the model you have? http://apple-history.com/g4_mirror
If so, it is loud. I have a dual 867 model next to me at work. It will heat up your room nicely. Not a great machine, but capable. As for Flash, it sucks, as do most PowerPC units.

No, its exactly like this except with a grill cover on the little speaker.

My guess is it was a 2001 Quicksilver model dual 800Mhz probably and he upgraded to 1.0ghz dual, or else it was a 2002 Quicksilver dual 1.0Ghz and he downgraded the video card from 64MB to 32MB which wouldnt make sense

Also, they run much cooler with CHUD nap mode enabled.

The linked page says, that nap-mode does not harm performance, so why is it not turned on from the beginning? There must be some disadvantages, because why would Apple sell machines without enabling nap-mode, if it saves power and cooles the system and has no disadvantages. If there are no problems, they could have just installed it as stock preset and then they could have advertised less power consumption and heat!
For a firm like Apple that is so good in advertisement strategies it sounds a bit curious, if they missed this advertisement possibility without purpose.

If I'm not mistaken it was enabled by default on single CPU models, but early versions of CHUD nap mode caused problems in dual CPU models. Even version 3.5.2 (the best version to use for a dual CPU MDD) does not appear to work correctly at first. It reports cache sizes incorrectly and doesn't save changes when you try to fix it. However, none of that actually matters. All that you want it for is to enable nap mode and drop those temps. My dual 1.42 ran between 55C and 60C during normal use before CHUD. Now, it's clocked at 1.58 and never gets above 50C. In my case, I guess you could say that it improved my performance since I never would have OC'd without it.

I've never had any problems with it that I know of, but you can read through reports from other users here:

Thanks Thundersnake.

Sorry shmegal325i, I do not want to highjack your thread, but if I may ask one last question on CHUD and nap-mode:

@ Thundersnake: If you do something that causes constant traffic (e.g. watching quicktime movie or converting movies under iMovie) than nap-mode would not be of any use, right? So, if one has an overheating CPU, that is not an option, I guess or is it? I mean you use nap-mode to "power" it down when the cores are not fully used as I understand it.

I'm watching a movie on a second display now. My CPU is at 31% and my temp is 39C. Yes, it does help even with constant activity. Is yours overheating? Some fresh thermal compound can also help if it has never been done. The stuff put on at the factory doesn't last forever.
