Hey everyone - i know these questions are always posted... 'should i buy this or that'..

but the thing is.. i need peoples advice.

I need to buy a mac desktop because my PC sucks, and my iBook is not powerful enough.

I'm considering buying either a G4 1.25 at $2,800 (New Zealand price) or a G5 1.6 at $3,800..

Now the thing is... im super poor. And it'll take me about 4months of serious saving to get a G5..

I could buy the G4 now/soon... but will the G5 come down in price?! if so - maybe in my budget ($3000-/+)?

I will be using the computer for learning DVD pro studio... (but that will take ages to save for too)

so - i could:
A) buy the G4 - save for a bit and get on with DVDPS
or
B) save for ages.. and ages... and then finally buy a G5.. then save a bit more then get DVDPS!?

Bahh, what to do... please lend me your experteese...

(also a side question... would a PC DVD writer [Pioneer A06] work in a mac?)

thanks in advance :)

oh and buying second hand is stupid cos people sell macs here like, "G4 800, standard, no extras. good. cond. $3000".

where youre like, 'umm... but brand new theyre... oh never mind'

or you get people selling "G4 800, not sure if its windows 98/2000"...

Heh, I used to live in Wellington, Florida for 12 years :) Does Apple have a refurbished/old model section on their website there? You could probably find an old 1 GHz TiBook or a first gen 12" PowerBook for a good price. I've also seen some dual G4 PowerMacs for insanely cheap prices around here. A few weeks ago I found a dual 1.25 GHz G4 for $900! If I weren't in college and in need of small and easy to move objects for when I move out every semester, I'd love to pick one of those up with a nice display.

Want to buy an older G4 for cheap? I'm looking to sell mine:

G4 500MHz
768MB RAM
LiteOn 52x CD-RW Drive
3HDD (3 IBM 32GB 5400RM Drives)
Radeon 8500 Pro (64MB)

Extras:
5 Port Ethernet Card (Multiple Connection)
Tempo ATA/100 Controller Card
ViewSonic A70f FlatScreen Monitor

Make me an offer. I'm looking to get 650$ U.S.

This thing runs pretty dang fast too. It IS indeed faster then the QuickSilver 733MHz G4s.
