g4 imac buying advise?

hello im thinking about purchising the imac g4 desktop. i belive thats its name is the older model with the circualr bottom and monitor attached but anyways i was thinking of buying this as my first mac.. im only 15 so i dont need anything amazing just the usual music and web browsing... do you think this would suit my needs and what would be the reasonable amount for one? thankyou any help would be appreciated!!
 
i am a student that works in the computer labs at uc davis and the imac g4 is a great machine.

even though our labs mostly have imac g5s, the imac g4 is still around. and i love it. it's a great machine and if i had extra cash laying around (or wasnt saving up for a guitar, lol), i would buy one for my parents so they can ditch that dell machine that got reformatted by the tech guys when my parents called tech support. 😛

make sure it's not lower than 1 ghz however. i would recommend at least 1.25 ghz and 512 MB RAM. it's a great little machine that will do your web browsing, music, word processing, etc, great. i dont know much about their prices so you may have to ask someone else about that.

If the iMac G4 your looking for is over 800-900 dollars, don't buy it. Get an iMac G5 instead.

The G4 would be a nice starting computer for you...

One thing I do recomend is to check out the apple refurbs, they had an iBook 1 ghz for under 700 dollars. Keep an eye on those machines. (Maybe even an eMac, since apple once in a while has those).

Agreed, or a faster iBook G4, unless you have some specific burning desire for an iMac G4.

Did they make a iMac G4 700mhz?

I bought the 15" when it was released and it was G4 800,

Bought the 17" when it was released 2-3 months after and it was a G4 800 also.

Then Bought the 20" 1.25Ghz....

As far as I remember there never was a G4 700???

The iMac 700mhz was the first G4 iMac.

You can get the iMac on eBay for as low as $400-$500.
 
Great machine for your needs. Make sure you get one with usb 2.0 if you have or plan on purchasing a newer ipod.
 
The "BEST" buy in iMac G4 FP is @least above 1Ghz cpu speed since you get usb 2.0 and more vram << IMO
