My friend has just been given his first Mac. A G4 Mac Mini one of the first models that didnt have wireless and bluetooth, he has just purchased a Belkin wireless g usb adaptor but is having problems getting online to his dads wireless router.

Does anyone have any advice, about what network settings he needs to change or is this a bigger issue of incompatability.

Any advice would be great, I am constantly harking on about how great apple is please dont let me down now.

Maybe somebody else has more info, but according to Belkin's website:

http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=F5D7050&aid=5381&scid=221

...there are several versions of the USB G Adapter, and only the 3xxx version has Mac drivers, and even then only for OSX 10.3.

Is he running 10.3? If not, it doesn't look like that is even supported at all (though I suppose it's possible OSX includes drivers for it built-in?). If so, I assume he's installed those drivers and is having trouble getting it to connect to his router?

If that's the case, what kind of security is he using on the network?

[Edit: Ah, that's right, I thought I'd read about this before. If that adapter uses the Ralink chipset, Ralink has their own driver which apparently works, and is compatible with at least through 10.4; here's a howto I ran across as well.]
