g4 PB Ambient Light Sensor - Gone?

All of a sudden any reference to my PB having the Ambient light sensor is gone. By keyboard does not light up at all and the screen brightness does not adjust. What is odd is that any reference (i.e. checkboxes) in system prefs seems to be gone. Its not shut off, its just gone.😕 I've reset the PRAM/PMU already. What the heck?

Mine is the same. I've tried everything from restarts to clean installs.

The darn thing just came back from Applecare about a month ago. I really don't want to send it back for something so "minor" and be without the thing for 3 weeks again!
